Georgiana, AL: Tilford Blackmon, 1934. Black patterened paperwraps, title printed on front wrapper (faint). 22 cm. 80 pp. Small photo illus. of the author. Faint old stain to lower outer page margins, previous owner's name at head of title page. A good copy. Johnson's autobiography is written in the form of letters to his wife, while he was in prison. An introductory essay of 15 pp. precedes the text, with separate title page: "AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF JOHN HENRY JOHNSON. Take it and carefully read. If you think it is worth it, give the Author of it Twenty-Five Cents. Four leading thoughts is this little booklet are: Twice married; Three terms in the Insane Asylum; Two terms in jail; and One long term in the State Penitentiary." Johnson was born in 1852 in southeastern Alabama and lived in Georgiana and Till. He served time in both jail and the Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa (the Alabama Insane Asylum) in the early decades of the 20th century, accused of feeble-mindedness and murder. Oblong folio. 92 pp. Profusely illustrated from photographs: group portraits of the various companies in the district, including those entirely composed of African Americans (none appear to be integrated), group portraits of athletic teams, including an African-American baseball team, scenes from work sites, collages of recreational activities, meetings with dignitaries, etc.; the first page is an unused "Certificate of Enrollment" form, followed by unused pages for service record and autographs. 27 individual Company commands from Mississippi and Alabama are described, each with a history and lists of personnel; two of the Alabama companies were made up entirely of African Americans, 465 from Northport and 475 from Fort McClellan. A final page prints a four-panel cartoon by the artist "Leigh," entitled "Smart Cora," about dating a CCC man. OCLC records one copy (Auburn). Very good. Original illustrated green wrappers, printed in red and black. (#7568).

Brochado com as folhas soltas em estojo editorial cartonado com ilustrações nas capas. A obra é composta por 10 páginas de texto, 1 mapa colorido e 49 fotogravuras a sépia. Exemplar com pequenas falhas e rasgos no papel no estojo editorial. Obra de grande importância etnográfica, antropológica e fotográfica, publicada para a 1ª Exposição Colonial Portuguesa realizada na cidade do Porto, em 1934. A introdução do autor, num caderno com 10 páginas datado "Lisboa 1933", apresenta uma breve descrição das raças Jingas, Bondos, Bângalas, Songos, Quiôcos, Xinges, Mussucos, Hôlos, Lunda e Bapendes(?) (texto trilingue – português, francês e inglês).Não existe qualquer informação sobre o autor dos desenhos e capitulares nem do responsável pela criação gráfica. O mapa é da autoria do próprio Fernando Mouta (nome seguido da menção "Eng. IST"). As fotografias apresentam sempre imagens frontais de cabeças, vistas à altura dos olhos, de perfil e de costas, em diferentes formatos, destacadas contra com o fundo sempre desfocado, excepto na última fotogravura com duas mulheres, de corpo inteiro, com crianças ao colo em frente a duas palhotas (casas ou celeiros). Large wall map of the United States, 58.5 x 81 in., including part of Mexico, and the Island of Cuba, mounted on cloth and attached to wooden rollers at the upper and lower edges. A good, bright copy with some overall toning, wear and chipping mostly at the lower corners, and old dampstaining at the lower left corner. The map includes outlines of the areas of territorial growth and additions to the original thirteen states, with dates of acquisition and boundaries for the Louisiana Purchase, the Annexation of Texas, territory ceded by Mexico after the Mexican War, etc. Inset maps along the lower margin show Alaska, the Philippine Islands, American Samoa, Guam, Manua Group, Hawaiian Islands, Puerto Rico & the Virgin Islands, and the Canal Zone & Isthmus of Panama, plus an Index map. Also included along the lower margin is a note: "The list of Guano islands appearing on previous editions of this map have been omitted pending revision thereof." Editions of this map were published by the General Land Office from the early 1900s on. Seven listings found on OCLC for this 1934 edition: Calif. State - Long Beach, Illinois State, Univ. of Chicago, Harvard, State Hist. Soc. of N. Dakota, Utah State, and Univ. of Wisconsin.

An eine namentlich nicht genannte Adressatin: "Da das genannte Blatt ein von der Deutschen Regierung unterstütztes Blatt ist, habe ich als Nichtarier derzeit keine Möglichkeit mich an das Blatt zu wenden. Sie dürften als Arierin ohne meine Fürsprache bessere Chancen haben. Trotzdem habe ich mich an einige türkische Collegen gewendet, die aber auch erklärten, keine Beziehungen zu diesem Blatte zu haben. Da ich erst kurze Zeit hier bin und fast meine ganze Zeit auf der Klinik verbringe, habe ich auch noch nicht viele Bekannte". - Erich Ruttin wurde 1925 Vorstand des Ambulatoriums für Ohrenkranke an der Krankenanstalt Rudolfsstifung in Wien, 1933 übernahm er dort auch die Leitung des Ambulatoriums für Hals- und Nasenkranke. Für das Studienjahr 1934/35 wurde er auf eine ordentliche Professur an die Universität Istanbul berufen, um dort eine Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Klinik zu errichten, musste die Stelle aber aus gesundheitlichen Gründen nach einigen Monaten aufgeben und kehrte nach Wien zurück. Bis 1938 leitete er das Ambulatorium für Hals-Nasen-Ohren-Kranke in der Rudolfsstiftung. Am 22. April 1938 wurde Ruttin seines Amtes enthoben und vertrieben. Auf Briefpapier mit gedr. Briefkopf.
