1934 - Vintage original 10 x 8" (25 x 20 cm.) single weight glossy sepia-tinted silver gelatin print still photo, USA. Leni Riefenstahl was a multi-talented legendary lady of German cinema. She was known as a film director, producer, screenwriter, editor, photographer, actress, dancer, and has come down in history famously as a propagandist for the Nazis. As the filmmaker Hitler chose to glorify the Germans at the start of World War II, her involvement has always been a point of controversy. She was most famous initially for her mountain climbing films and then for her most famous directorial works, TRIUMPH OF THE WILL and OLYMPIA. This portrait was taken during the time of those two films. Minor crease to the bottom right corner. ABOUT FINE

Dr. Johann von Leers
Berlin-Schöneberg, NS.-Druck und Verlag, um 1934. (noch zu Nr. 25501:) ". . . Dr. Erwin Piscator, bolschewistischer Kunstjude, raffinierter Veranstalter zersetzender Theaterstücke. Baranov, Ippolit Gavrilovich
Harbin: N. P. Kobtsev; tip. "Zaria", 1934. Quarto (26.5 × 19.5 cm). Original printed wrappers; 17 pp. Signed and inscribed by the author to Vladimir Petrovich in Almaty, Kazachstan in 1959. One page with author's ink correction. About very good; covers with light soil and a few nicks; old bookstore label inside rear wrapper. Rare Russian-language overview of recent developments in Chinese literature, which suggests that Chinese national literature still must develop and that, in spite of many attempts, Chinese modern literature still has few works comparable to European classics. The author argues that the greatest advances are being made in contemporary realist prose. Baranov (1886-1972) was a translator and Sinologist who taught Chinese language, ethnography, history and literature to employees of the Russian Far Eastern Railway and various universities in Manchuria. He authored over 150 works within his areas of specialization. In 1958 he immigrated to the Soviet Union, where he settled in Almaty, Kazachstan. KVK, OCLC only show the copies at Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, National Library of Finland, and UC Berkeley.

Harbin: N. P. Kobtsev; tip, 1934. Quarto (26 × 18.5 cm). Staple-stitched pamphlet with paper spine strip; 23 pp. Rust to staples; last page discolored; else very good, printed on better paper. A short, but highly informative Russian-language description of the history and present makeup of the State Public Library in Beijing, formerly the National Library of Peiping, and now the Chinese National Library. The pamphlet contains an overview of the library's history, major additions and special collections, buildings and departments, major bibliographical guides and catalogs, international collaborations, as well as the rules and regulations for using the library on site and for borrowing materials. Published as an offprint from the "Bibliographical Journal" (Bibliograficheskii sbornik, vol. 2), published by the Library of the Chinese Eastern Railway (KVZhD). Fitzgerald, F. Scott
London Chatto & Windus 1934 - First edition. The book is firmly and squarely bound in light blue cloth, lettered in light green to the spine, the spine and front board are slightly faded and there is some minor marking, the extremities are slightly rubbed and bumped. The text block is a little foxed and toned with a small bookseller's label to the front pastedown. A much better than average example of the uncommon U.K. first edition. [Attributes: First Edition]

Fitzgerald, F Scott
London: Chatto & Windus, 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. First British edition, first printing (September, 1934) with the publisher's ads inserted at the rear. This story of Americans on the French Riviera in the 1930s is a portrait of psychological disintegration as a wealthy couple supports a group of dubious friends and hangers-on at the cost of their own stability. Octavo. In a modern three-quarter blue morocco over marbled paper binding, with decorative gilt stamping, four raised bands, and matching marbled endpapers. A very handsome presentation. Bruccoli A15.2.a.
