Gollancz 1933 - The First UK Printing published by Gollancz in 1933. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. The correct first issue with orange boards and black titling to the spine. Light spotting to prelims with light toning to the page edges. Mild vertical crease to front blank end paper. A tight copy. NO Wrapper. XXI Welsh Gypsy Folk Tales, collected by John Sampson.

Gregynog Press, Newtown 1933 - 8 wood engravings by Agnes Miller Parker. No. 142 of 250 copies. Printed in Bembo type on Portal's handmade paper. Sm. 4to, mustard-yellow Welsh sheepskin with title in a pattern of rules in gilt on the upper cover, spine titled in gilt. A fairly good example of a notoriously weak binding, spotting to the sheepskin, spine a little rubbed, usual offset from turnins. The text was edited by John Sampson's literary executor Dora Yates who kept considerable control over all the stages of production. The mustard-yellow binding was at her behest - she had demanded that it must be bound in a 'gipsy colour, either red or yellow'. W. A. Foyle, Beeleigh Abbey leather booklabel on front pastedown.         The Old Gang and the New Gang.

London: Desmond Harmsworth, 1933 - Octavo. Original white and black cloth, title to spine black. With the dust jacket. Housed in a grey solander box. Cloth a little toned to spine and board edges; an excellent copy in the jacket with toned spine and extremities. First edition, first impression. A superb presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his wife, "To my darling wife geehos, 1933. Wyndham Lewis." Gladys Anne Hoskins (1900-1979) and Lewis were married in 1930, though he concealed this fact from his friends for much of the 1930s. In 1939 Lewis wrote to the wife of his friend John Rothenstein, explaining that: "my wife and I were most orthodoxly spliced a long time ago I have found myself rather overshadowed by [her] and she has been forced a little into the fray – we have no children. She is blonde, she tends to put on fat, her mother was German, her father a good British farmer she has ridden all over the Atlas on a mule and is a great reader of my books; but you can see she is a wife in a thousand." One of 1,000 copies printed. Morrow & Lafourcade A20. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

        The Lamentations of Jeremiah.

Gregynog Press, Newtown 1933 - 21 wood engravings (5 full page) and book design by Blair Hughes-Stanton, headings and running titles printed in blue. No.211 of 250 copies. Printed on japanese vellum. Folio, original dark blue morocco (only 109 copies were bound in this way), title and device in blind on upper cover and spine. Very slight bumping to bottom of spine but generally a very good copy. A truly spectacular work form the Press, and I would argue one of the greatest from any Press around this time, with some astonishingly skilled and imposing wood engravings by Hughes-Stanton.
