N.p.: N.p., 1930. Archive detailing country, western, and bluegrass performers and radio programs broadcast in the New England area in the late 1930s and early 1940s, with dated material ranging from 1937 through 1942, consisting of photographs or postcards of performers, correspondence from radio stations, and handwritten documentation about radio programs and performances. The images appear to focus heavily on performers in the New England region, although musicians from the expected areas of the American South, such as North Carolina and Kentucky, are represented. Many of the performers are obscure or appear lost to history altogether, but notable entries include Tex Fletcher, "The Sweethearts of Country Music" Lulu Belle and Scotty (as well as an unknown earlier appearance of Lulu Belle performing alongside Uncle Lem and His Mountain Boys), Bradley Kincaid, and New England country music legends Ken MacKenzie and Georgia Mae Harp, the "yodeling cowgirl of Massachusetts."Other regional New England performers include Smiley and Sue, Jerry and Sky, Duke and His Swingbillies, Curly Joe of Curly Joe and the Roving Ramblers, and Al Rawley's Wild Azaleas, while the greater country music scene is represented by musicians s … [Click Below for Full Description]

Copy #30 of only 50, each with an original SIGNED holograph letter by Ruskin bound in, this copy with a one-page letter dated 5 November 1873 to Madame E. Stuart: "I wish I could write a pretty picturesque hand like yours. -- still one word puzzles me in your address Les B[?] ? -- please tell me if it is some Breton(?) word." So intimately has Mr. Horvath entered into the spirit of Mr. Ruskin's story that his pictures have the exceptional merit of unfolding the inner meanings suggested by words. The imagination of the picture maker has been enlivened by that of the writer, resulting in perfect accord, and a new interpretation is made for the delight of those who read" (introduction). GENERALS DIE IN BED - Charles Yale Harrison1st EditionWilliam Morrow & Co., New York 1930 This is one of the most important books written about WWI, based on the experiences of Charles Yale Harrison. All original hardcover with beige boards with intact red stamping on front cover and spine. 269 pages. Original dust jacket designed by Wenck in an art deco style is intact and attractive. Chipping at top and bottom of spine, 2cm separation at fold of front flap, toned at spine, small chips at folds of top of front flap and top and bottom of rear flap. I'm being careful to note the small defects, but this rare dust jacket is in a remarkable state of preservation: flat, no tape, bright color on front cover. Dust jacket is NOT price-clipped (original $2.50 price intact). DJ is protected by mylar Brodart sleeve. Boards are in excellent condition. Front and rear hinges are completely intact. Binding is solid and pages are bright. Pages are in excellent condition. Very attractive volume! The hardcover 1st edition of Generals Die in Bed is very scarce, especially with dust jacket. Please let me know if you have any questions. _______________________ From Wikipedia: Generals Die in Bed is an anti-war novella by the Canadian writer Charles Yale Harrison. Harrison, Charles Yale
William Morrow & Company, New York, 1930. [288pp, top edge brown]: [xiv], 274 (last two leaves blank); bound with patterned endleaves in khaki linen printed red, jacket ($2.50 on flap); 197 × 138 × 41 mm. First American edition of the Canadian-raised author's celebrated & iconoclastic first book, considered today one of the great accounts of the First World War (comparable in effect to Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun). Yet it remains one of the unsung classics of modern Canadian literature, in part because of its topic, but more for the condemnation it aroused among Canadian Army brass for its offensive depiction of their troops in France (resulting in the book not being released in Canada for 45 years). As hard-boiled as Hem, Hammett, Chandler & Cain, its style continues to engage. Printed on good book paper, a lovely tight copy in an edge-worn jacket missing four pieces. The book remains elusive despite the fact the edition enjoyed at least three further printings. Far scarcer than the British first. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Strakhov, Adol'f Iosipovich, 1896-1979]
Kharkiv, 1930. Octavo (25 × 18.2 cm). Original decorative wrappers with a constructivist design by Adol'f Strakhov; [4], 47 pp. and [15] leaves of photogravures on better stock, of the one fold-out. Very light wear; else a very good copy, preserving the bright colors of the wrappers. Scarce official publication announcing a competition for designing the monument to Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861), the Ukrainian national poet. With a brief biography of the writer, a selection of portraits and related iconography, and a bibliography on the topic. Text in Ukrainian and Russian. An expanded edition in Ukrainian, Russian, French, and German was issued with a print run of 1500 copies, but this bi-lingual edition is far less common, being one of 800 copies printed. Both feature a spare yet masterful constructivist wrapper design by Adol'f Strakhov (1896-1979), an important Ukrainian poster and graphic artist, perhaps best known for his design "The Emancipated Woman is Building Socialism" (1926). Strakhov also initially won the competition for the Shevchenko monument, but was forced out due to political reasons, and the monument was completed by Russian sculptor Matvei Manizer. Kharkiv was the capital of the Ukrainian Socialist Republic until 1934. A similar design by Strakhov is featured in the MoMA catalog (907, The Russian Avant-Garde Book, 1910-1934, p. 231). MoMA 908 is the mult-lingual edition. Compare also Getty 646. This edition not in KVK, OCLC, which only show a copy of the expanded edition at IISG, Harvard, and Urbana Champaign.
