The Tragedie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke

Weimar: Harry Kessler at the Cranach Press,, 1930. Edited by J. Dover Wilson Litt. D. from the text of the Second Quarto printed in 1604-5. 'According to the True and Perfect Coppie'. With which are also printed The Hamlet Stories from Saxo Grammaticus and Belleforest and English translations therefrom. Illustrated by Edward Gordon Craig, and printed by Count Harry Kessler at the Cranach Press, Weimar. Folio (355 × 240 mm). Original japon vellum-backed Kessler binding, beige paper to covers, vellum tips, titles gilt to spine and front board, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Contains, in a slip-pocket to rear pastedown, an orange cloth-backed folio with beige paper covers, with complementary notes on the text by J. Dover Wilson. Housed in a black and green slipcase. Title page designed by Eric Gill and 91 woodcut designs (two with colour) by Edward Gordon Craig in the text. Spine very slightly darkened, a couple of small spots to boards, and a short closed tear to head of front joint. An excellent copy in a slightly rubbed and worn slipcase. First English edition, first impression, preceded by the German-language edition published by Kessler in 1929. Limited to 300 numbered copies printed on Maillol hand-made paper, this copy was printed out-of-series for the German proof-reader Dr. H. Wengler of Dresden and was not for sale. The volume combines the magisterial scholarship of J. Dover Wilson, juxtaposing a number of Hamlet variants, with the extraordinary illustrations by Edward Gordon Craig (described by the London Times as being "brilliant and original" enough to "mak[e] one long to see Hamlet staged by Mr Craig"), in a beautiful Kessler binding. The A. Horne Dictionary of 20th-century British Book Illustrators (p. 154) asserts that "The Cranach 'Hamlet' is one of the most striking and imaginative works of the twentieth century".

A collection of 18 personal New Year greetings etchings and drypoints by Troy Kinney 1916-1937

1930. Troy Kinney. A grouping of etchings and drypoints of various dancers created by Troy, and used by Troy and his wife Margaret as New Year greetings. The earliest, 1916, depicts a pre-Revolutionary couple in a minuet style dance. Through the years the portrayals included ballerinas, mythical satyrs, classical and whimsical risqué ballerinas, Russian dancers and exotic dancers. For a number of years, following the move to Connecticut, a whimsical ballerina was portrayed doing various household chores from chopping wood to stoking a fire. Several signed in pencil. Some with brief New Year greetings. The only indication as to the recipients is a “Dear Anna & Nat” at the base of one card. Each measures approx 5 ½” x 4 ½”. Some mounted or with mats. Troy Kinney ((Kansas City, 1871 - Falls Village, Connecticut, 1938) was most notable for his works portraying dance performers, fanciful subjects, and classically styled nudes. He worked with dance performers, including Ruth St. Denis, Anna Pavlova, and Sophie Pflanz among others. He co-authored with his wife the books "Social Dancing of Today" and "The Dance: Its Place in Art and Life", for which he traveled throughout the world to study various dance styles. It remains to this day one of the most comprehensive works on the subject. Kinney's original drypoints and etchings are now included in the collections of the Library of Congress, Washington, DC., the Chicago Art Institute, the Cleveland Museum and the New York Public Library.

La tradición de América. Su valoración subjetiva. Prólogo del Excmo. Duque de Alba, Buenos Aires, (Junta de Historia y Numismática, Col. “Biblioteca”, tomo VIII, “El Ateneo” Casa editora), 1930.

[Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Sammlung von tls. eigenh. Notenhandschriften eigener und fremder Werke.

Verschiedene Orte, ca. 1810-1930. - Zusammen 433 SS. eigene Werke bzw. Werkfragmente, Entwürfe u. dgl. und 1329 SS. Werke bzw. Werkfragmente, Entwürfe u. a. anderer Komponisten in Abschriften.

God Without Thunder: An Unorthodox Defense of Orthodoxy

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company. (1930). First. First edition. 334pp. Original blue cloth, gilt-stamped spine title (dulled). Spine darkened with ends starting to fray, else very good. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "To Lieutenant Saville T. Clark - With affection and esteem - John Crowe Ransom, August 19, 1931." Ransom's own thoughts that a vengeful God would be better for society than a gentle Jesus, but his admittance that religion is only man-made makes his argument invalid. .
