Autograph Manuscript, signed ("Edwin Markham") of his tribute to the Bronx River Parkway

West New Brighton, N.Y., 1929. One page, in ink, written laterally on single sheet of blank stationery. 4to. Fine. One page, in ink, written laterally on single sheet of blank stationery. 4to. "...transformed an unsightly, malodorous drain into a place of delight". A fine tribute to the Bronx River Parkway, penned on New Year's Day, 1929, by the author of "The Man with a Hoe", then living in New York City: "Next to the home, the tree-lined road and the wayside bridge have ever been dear and near to the heart of man, So our own Bronx River Parkway - an enduring, tree-sheltered, all-serving road - will long give joy to our people. All gratitude and honor, therefore, to the engineers, landscape architects and gardeners who have transformed an unsightly, malodorous drain into a place of delight and romantic beauty - a place that not only speeds the wheels of commerce, but also is "A place where passing souls can rest "On the way, and be their best." [The final couplet is a quotation from Markham's own poem "A Prayer"].

        Mary de Cork.

      - Emile Hazan & Cie, Editeurs. Paris 1929, grand in-8° broché. 56 pages.

Tafeln in Kupfertiefdruck, monochrom in Sepia. - Die Reihe der Hundert. - R. etw. angestaubt. (Zitat) Versand D: 7,00 EUR Fotografie
