Nabokov, Vladimir (hier in der deutschen Namensform mit seinem angehängten russischen Pseudonym: Wladimir Nabokoff-Sirin)
Ullstein, Berlin 1928 - 253 S. Hervorragend restaurierter keinformatiger Orig.-Leinenband. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

GREAT BRITAIN - LONDON)
London. The Westminster Press. Copyright 1914. [ 1928]. Gill, MacDonald (illus). Color pictorial / pictographic map sheet 29 1/4 x 36 1/2 inches, originally folded as issued, now professionally restored and mounted on linen. Tiny chips to edges and corners now infilled, light wear and separations to folds all professionally restored and virtually invisible, the poster appearing fresh and clean. Originally published in 1914 as an advertising poster for the London Underground, this design proved so popular that it was subsequently published in several different editions. It has been suggested (on the blog of Tim Bryars) that this particular edition with an image of a greyhound and "On to Wembley" at the upper left of the map was issued at the time of the introduction of greyhound racing at Wembley in December 1927 "with a dog named Spin winning the very first race." The greyhound's jacket in the print carries the letter 'S' endorsing this suggestion. An outstanding and innovative graphic - an explosion of color and humor - the poster sparked a revival in interest in decorative cartography around the world which continues today, a century later.

Russische Avantgarde. - Lissitzky, El. - Ilya Selvinsky:
Moskau., Gosizdat, 1928. 91 S., 1 Bl. Mit 1 Falttafel. 8°, Orig.-Karton nach Entfurf El. Lissitzkys. Original-Ausgabe. - Kat. Meyrink, Gustav
Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Co., [1928].. Octavo, pp. [1-4] 5-288, inserted frontispiece with uncredited drawing of the Golem (this plate does not appear in the UK issue), original purple cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black, top edge stained black, fore-edge untrimmed. First edition in English, U.S. issue (made up from British sheets). Meyrink's first novel "prefigures that disastrous climax [World War I] to a century of growth and change. The phantasmagorical, threatened Prague of this novel - its wainscots haunted by a Golem who is more like a psychic fog than an actual entity, and the false polder of its ghetto withering under the baleful light of a new century - makes THE GOLEM into a pure urban fantasy: a tale whose setting, like some vast subterranean edifice, seems literally alive, organic, all-encompassing, Gothic. It is, however, like most twentieth-century urban fantasies distinguished from its Gothic ancestors through a sense that the fall of the city will be a bad omen for its inhabitants, not a release. At the same time, the pending destruction of Prague (and all of Europe itself) is treated by Meyrink with a deep ambivalence, and his next novels all tend to present the apocalypse as an occult cleansing of the material world so that higher unions of the spirit can be achieved." - Clute and Grant (eds), The Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1997), p. 642. "Key work of German Expressionism." - Barron (ed), Horror Literature 3-148. Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction 1173. Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 157. UNKNOWN.
PARIS FRANCE: 1928. Manuscript. 12mo-over 6¾"-7¾" tall. On offer is a charming, original manuscript dairy handwritten by a young British, we believe, woman in Paris France employed to teach English at the Lycee April 21st to August 22nd 1928. While the author's name is unknown even a casual read reveals the woman as each day is a complete daily record of everything she did from when she woke up until she went to bed, including details of her duties, where she went, lessons and daily duties, what she wore and even some 'insider' school politics or drama etc. making for a fascinating, very detailed account of her experience at the Lycee in Paris. But much more than that the writer is an enthusiastic tourist too doing the French experience to the ultimate in her free time and describing it all in sparkling narrative. Historians and researchers of Paris in 1928 will acknowledge that the City of Light was at the epicentre of critical literature and art and the ascending star of post World War I Europe. The 7 x almost 5 inch leather notebook has some wear and top and bottom spine loss to the covers and the occasional marking where she kept flowers between the pages and some pages are loose but all complete. Overall G. Good. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
