Prague, 1928. Large quarto (34.5 × 24 cm). Original quarter-cloth with hand-written label to front board; fourteen bound-in folding maps, hand-colored, with official stamps, hand-written notes, and signatures, various sizes, approximately 49 × 85 cm. each. Boards rubbed and lightly distended; three of the maps have been removed from the binding, but are laid in loosely; occasional light wear and smaller tears to folds from use. Unique bound volume of fourteen large floor and frontal plans for this important Czech functionalist building, located at Charles Square (Karlovo nám stí) 5 and also known as Palác Charitas. The plans, many of which are hand-colored and signed by the principals, the Charitas group, an association of Catholic housing cooperative. The architect appears to have been Ferdinand Rudolf in Smíchov, Prague. According to the approval stamps by the Prague municipal authorities, the plans were completed in 1928. Construction began the same year and the building was completed in 1929; it was fully modernized in 2002, retaining the purist fassade. The building is now the seat of the Czech People's Party (Christian and Democratic Union, KDU- SL). [Attributes: Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

(GUINNESS, Edward Cecil, 1st Earl of Iveagh)
Finely colored photogravure frontis. of a Romney painting & 59 black & white photogravure plates. xxiii, [1], 33 pp. Very large & thick folio, orig. crimson half-morocco & red cloth (extremities & joints slightly rubbed), Iveagh's coat of arms stamped in gilt on upper cover, spine gilt, t.e.g. London: "Published for the Iveagh Trustees by W.J. Stacey" [Printed at the Chiswick Press], 1928. The spectacular catalogue of a true "masterpiece" collection, printed in only 100 numbered copies and with subscription form. Guinness (1847-1927), member of the brewing dynasty and renowned philanthropist, created a trust for this collection in 1925 as his final and unparalleled benefaction. "In 1874 [Guinness] bought his first major painting, Rembrandt's Judas Returning the Thirty Pieces of Silver, formerly in the Charlemont collection, but it was the flotation of the family's Dublin brewery on the Stock Exchange in 1886 that gave him ample funds to buy art. Between 1887 and 1891 he acquired nearly 250 pictures, almost exclusively from Agnew's, at a cost of about 550,000 pounds. Iveagh's taste was unadventurous and he indulged in the characteristic millionaire's preference for grand 18th-century English portraits. He surrounded himself with 36 by Reynolds, 22 by Romney, and 16 by Gainsborough, competing with the Rothschilds and the Randlords, and anticipating the American boom in English ancestor portraits fuelled by Duveen…Lord Iveagh was one of a handful of British collectors who could compete with the Americans, and like them he wanted his collection to be a public asse … [Click Below for Full Description]

Edited by Charles L. Camp
The Arthur H. Clark Company, Copyright California Historical Society, Special Publication No. 3, Cleveland 1928 - First edition in book form (text first printed in the California Historical Society in installments from June 1925 to March 1927). A ' limited edition' (Charles L. Camp states in the introduction to the 1960 edition that only 330 copies were printed). On the title page right above '1928' there is an affixed label with print that reads 'Cleveland' (and then below it) 'The Arthur H. Clark Company'. Across from the title page there is a frontispiece photograph of James Clyman. It is affixed at the top edge and not at the bottom edge. It is in perfect condition. You can see the blue covers in the photographs provided. There isn't any staining. At certain angles under a light you will see some light dust soiling. The gilt lettering on the front cover is quite bright, however on the spine it is quite faded. You can see it and read it but it isn't easy. It says James Clyman on the top and California Historical Society on the bottom. There is minimal wear on the covers, a little bumping/creasing at the front and rear bottom corners (no rubbing at either), a speck-sized spot of rub-through at the top right-hand corner, a few light creases on the spine, and a small tear and bit of loss at the bottom edge of the spine (see second photo). All six edges (top, bottom, and middle) are free of wear. I regard the binding ais very solid. I turned over every page in the book. I didn't see any cracks. There aren't any at the junctures between the inside covers and front and rear en … [Click Below for Full Description]

FOOTE, Arthur 1853-1937
An American composer, organist, pianist and teacher, "in his finest works Foote was a memorable composer. His style, firmly placed in the Romantic tradition, is characterized by lyrical melodies, expressive phrasing, and clear formal structure. He excelled in writing for strings and achieved particular popularity in his lifetime with the Suite in E major op.63 and A Night Piece for flute and strings. Of his works for full orchestra, the Four Character Pieces after the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám op.48 is noteworthy for its colourful instrumental writing. His strong melodic gift is exemplified in such songs as I'm wearing awa' and An Irish Folk Song... Foote was highly regarded as a pedagogue, earning his livelihood mainly from private piano instruction." Wilma Reid Cipolla in Grove Music Online.. 1 page. Quarto. Dated Ridge Avenue, Newton Centre, Mass., Feb. 4, 1928 at head. To a Miss Warnell, apologizing for not being able to join her at a luncheon. Very slightly soiled; creased at folds.
