A great freedom of treatment was necessary rendering these legends into malleable forms remaining same or similar in their essence having existed for the past two or three millennia. But, by their indestructibility are legitimate subjects for every age to clothe with its own garnish of manners and sentiment, and imbue with its own morality. In these fables of Hawthorne, they assume a Gothic or romantic guise and meeting the comprehension of children. It is only the artificial and complex that bewilder them, while their imaginative senses rise deep and high for elemental of these legends. Contents include: The Gorgon's Head; The Golden Touch; The Paradise of Children; The Three Golden Apples; The Miraculous Pitcher; The Chimaera. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall. 207 pages. Insured post. Elsa 1881 1950
[Click Below for Full Description]

Abreu Gomez, Ermilio / Asch, Nathan / Azuela, Mariano / Bacon, Peggy / Gonzalez Rojo, Enrique / Gastelum, Bernardo J. vv.aa.
[Incompleta colección. 5 volúmenes de los cuales II - III - IV - VIII - XI]. Mexico, Contemporaneos Mexico, 1928 / 1931. 15,5 cm x 22,5 cm. (Wikipedia)

Milne, A.A.
First Edition. London, Meuthen & Co., Ascherberg, Hopwood & Crew, 1928. 24 cm x 30 cm. 40 pages. With musical notes and illustrations in black and white. Original hardcover in protective covering. Excellent condition first edition with only very minor signs of external wear. Opie collection of children's literature. A.A. Milne grew up in a school - his parents ran Henley House in Kilburn, for young boys - but never intended to be a children's writer. Pooh he saw as a pleasant sideline to his main career as a playwright and regular scribe for the satirical literary magazine, Punch.nnWriting was very much the dominant feature of A.A. (Alan Alexander)'s life. He joined the staff of Punch in 1906, and became Assistant Editor. In the course of two decades he fought in the First World War, wrote some 18 plays and three novels, and fathered a son, Christopher Robin Milne, in 1920 (although he described the baby as being more his wife's work than his own!).nObservations of little Christopher led Milne to produce a book of children's poetry, When We Were Very Young, in 1924, and in 1926 the seminal Winnie-the-Pooh. More poems followed in Now We Are Six (1927) and Pooh returned in The House at Pooh Corner (1928). After that, in spite of enthusiastic demand, Milne declined to write any more children's stories as he felt that, with his son growing up, they would now only be copies based on a memory. (Amazon)

McBain, Howard Lee
New York: Macmillan, 1928. First Edition. First Edition. A legal response, written for the layman, to the prohibition question of the day. Ostensibly without bias to either side of the debate, the text addresses the issue in terms of the Volstead Act, Presidential authority, the Bill of Rights, and other legal perspectives. Very Good plus in a Near Fine example of the scarce dust jacket. Contemporary owner name and address (dated 1930, South Bend, Indiana) on the front pastedown, jacket has a faint diagonal crease at the front panel, and at the same location, the front flap. Still, a lovely copy overall.

Macmillan, New York 1928 - First Edition. A legal response, written for the layman, to the prohibition question of the day. Ostensibly without bias to either side of the debate, the text addresses the issue in terms of the Volstead Act, Presidential authority, the Bill of Rights, and other legal perspectives.Very Good plus in a Near Fine example of the scarce dust jacket. Contemporary owner name and address (dated 1930, South Bend, Indiana) on the front pastedown, jacket has a faint diagonal crease at the front panel, and at the same location, the front flap. Still, a lovely copy overall. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

[.]". Vice-amiral. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

MILNE, A. A.
London: Methuen & Co. Ltd, 1928. London: Methuen & Co. Ltd,, 1928. Octavo. Original pink cloth, spine lettered in gilt, vignette in gilt to front cover within single gilt rule border, illustrated endpapers, top edge gilt. With the dust jacket. Frontispiece and illustrations in the text by E. H. Shepard, of which 7 are full-page. Ownership inscription to recto of illustrated frontispiece. Foot of covers slightly faded, extremities lightly rubbed. A very good copy in the slightly nicked jacket, loss to spine ends, dark spots to panels, 11 mm closed tear to head of front panel. First edition, first impression. Milne began planning his final Pooh book in 1927. Three years of intense publicity were taking their toll on the family, and Milne longed to return full-time to adult literature, telling his brother that "after one more Pooh book I must think of something else. In fact, it's time I tried a novel" (Thwaite p. 328). Christopher Robin was growing up, soon to leave for boarding school, and The House at Pooh Corner would be a farewell. But first there was an introduction to be made. Milne had bought his son a stuffed tiger, "Tigger", and told Shepard that he was longing to see the illustrations for this new character, who would become one of the author's most popular creations. Published on 11 October 1928 in an edition of 75,000 regular trade copies, The House at Pooh Corner was received by critics with a delight tinged by sadness. "The Times Literary Supplement congratulated Milne on avoiding 'the temptation to repeat his successful formula mechanically', though it was ' … [Click Below for Full Description]
