Margery Lawrence
New York: Margery Lawrence - Fine Feathers - Curtiss Press, 1928 - First Edition / First Printing - No statement of edition or mention of later printings present on the copyright page as required in order to denote the first printing of the first edition. This example has some very minor shelf wear and there is a touch of offsetting but overall this is a superb copy which is bright, clean, square, and still tight. The topstain remains bright (red). The dust jacket has rubbing, general edge wear, soiling and some scattered stains. There are old (but not discolored or stained) tape mends on the verso of the jacket which are mostly to the spine ends. All together a very presentable and attractive example of what is a nearly unobtainable book-- especially in the beyond scarce dust jacket. OCLC worldcat was unable to locate any other copies. A very early work from this important author who would go on to be best remembered for her supernatural works. [Attributes: First Edition; In Dust Jacket]

MORLEY, Christopher.
[New York: 1928]. Quarto (278 x 215 mm). 8 leaves of writing paper, folded once, stapled in top left corner, with text to rectos only; 5 pp. neatly hand written in black ink, "Green Escape, Roslyn Heights, New York" printed in green on verso, 3 pp typewritten with manuscript annotations in black ink, blank on verso. Housed in a custom green morocco backed green cloth slipcase and chemise. Minor creasing to page edges; in very good condition. Christopher Morley's holographic follow copy of his essay "A Note on Conrad", signed by Morley on the final leaf. The essay was published in Morley's weekly column, The Bowling Green, in the Saturday Review of Literature on the 14 January 1928 (p. 519). This copy has the font sizes annotated in the margins, minor corrections to the text, and shows how the essay is to be formatted when published. The three pages of typewritten text are an extract from J. Stewart Doubleday's review of Conrad's autobiographical short story Youth (1898), which was first published in The Reader in May, 1903; subsequently in the published version of Morley's essay a shorter extract was used. With a typewritten bookseller's cataloguing note loosely inserted. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Hoult, Norah
The Scholartis Press, 1928. First edition, limited to 1000 copies, 8vo, pp. 226, [2]; blue cloth, title gilt on spine; very light spotting to boards, and top edge, near fine, in a near fine, toned dust jacket. Poor women! was Hoult's first published book. Laid into this copy is a one-page typed letter signed by Hoult thanking an unnamed correspondent for their review and noting a correction that might make it to the US edition: "I am afraid there is not much chance of extra editions here materializing..." Contrary to her prediction, Poor women! enjoyed critical success and saw a second printing, with Hoult going on to write 28 books total, but she has since become an obscure author, and all but one of her books are out of print. This auction is for 1928. Duncan Isadora. Soixante-Douze Planches par Jose Clara avec Une Presentation de Georges-A. Denis. Paris: Reider, 1928. Limited ed. of 474 copies, of which this in no. 323. Folio. 72 Loose plates, as issued in folder with 10pp. of text. Folder just a bit worn. Soixante-Douze Planches is a beautiful collection of 72 collotypes of Clara's drawings, gouaches, and pen sketches of Isadora. These illustrations show the full range of attitudes and expressions of Duncan, done by Clara who knew Duncan personally. The lovely color plates, which are interspersed among the black and white in this collection, are among the most collected of Duncan illustrations. An eight page preface by Georges Denis discusses the phenomenon of Isadora in her time, as well as the artist Jose Clara, who had watched Isadora dance since 1913. The preface also forms a tribute to Isadora, who died in 1927. The collotypes were printed at Societe de Gravure et d'Impression d'Art and the text at l'Imprimerie Ducros & Colas, Paris. Reference: Niles & Leslie I, 96; Magriel, 37. All plates and texts are in excellent condition and as above, the folder is just a bit worn. This collection is currently selling for over $1,000 on Abebooks, Biblio, Alibris and Amazon. It is currently selling for $1,400 on 1st Dibs. Please email me with any questions. Good luck!!!
