        Mornings in Mexico.

London: Martin Secker, 1927 - Octavo. Original olive cloth, titles to spine gilt, green top-stain. With the dust jacket. Spine slightly rolled and faded, small mark to front free endpaper affecting inscription, spine cracked between pages 80 and 81, contents toned. A very good copy in the lightly rubbed and toned jacket with two tape repairs to the verso of the spine. First edition, first impression. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper "Mrs. Whitworth from D. H. Lawrence, remembering David. May 1927". Phyllis Whitworth staged a production of Lawrence's play David at the Regent Theatre towards the end of May 1927. Because of ill health Lawrence had not been able to leave Italy and Germany to attend any of the rehearsals in England but had kept in touch with Whitworth by letter. On 13 May he wrote to her giving advice on monologues and suggesting ideas for costumes; two weeks later he sent Whitworth his latest book and wrote "I am sending you my last book, in commemoration of David" (see Letter 4032a in Boulton, Uncollected Letters, vol.VIII).
