John O'Dea
All three volumes: 515 + viii References and Index, 523-1015 + v, 1027-1505 + iii., strong gilt lettering on spines, vol. III the brightest, with gilt bands above and below the lettering, on unique shimmering patterned covers. All three volumes have minor wear to lower corners, but no visible wear to covers or edges. Spine ends are just touched with lightest wear. Text and interior and covers are very good to fine condition throughout. There are no marks, names, etc., on any of the inside covers or endpapers. Vol. I has tears between front and back pastedowns and attached endpapers. The eventful history of the Hibernians and their struggles and battles through the ages, such as versus Cromwellism, often in favor of Catholic causes. All three volumes are scarce, and a complete set like this, very rare.

[Cricket]. SERJEANT, Sir David:
London, Printed in Great Britain by King & Jarrett Limited, [1923]. Octavo (210 x 133 mm), 77 pages plus a frontispiece portrait and a processed copy of a letter on Buckingham Palace letterhead, dated 23 May 1923, conveying 'the King's sincere thanks for the copy of your book on Australia' (bound in at the title page). Cream card covers lettered in blue on the front panel; covers a little rubbed, sunned and creased; occasional light foxing and corner creases to the text; a very good copy. The front cover is anomalous: apart from the full title and author details, it includes some interesting text not included elsewhere in the book: 'Dedicated to The Right Hon. Stanley M. Bruce, P.C., M.C., Premier [sic] of Australia, and Arthur E.R. Gilligan, Esq., Captain of English Cricket team, 1924-1925'. There is an inscription on the recto of the frontispiece to 'Mr Ernest Benn with kind regards from The Author. Epsom, May 1927. In [last word indecipherable]' (not surprising, as the author was then 97 not out!). At the head of the front cover is the early ownership signature of George A. Hele, best remembered as the Bodyline umpire. Bradman is on record as stating 'I think the Englishmen who played under Hele would agree that he was the best Australian umpire between the two wars' (Australian Dictionary of Biography). Benn and Serjeant were no slouches either. Sir Ernest John Pickstone Benn, 2nd Baronet CBE (25 June 1875 - 17 January 1954) was a British publisher, writer and political publicist. Sir David Maurice Serjeant '(18 January 1830 - 12 January 1929) was an English-born cricke … [Click Below for Full Description]

Mounted colour lithographs to title and list of illustrations, 54 similar plates with captioned tissue-guards, lithographed portrait of Bakst after Picasso.
Waller, 13967 (exemplaire incomplet) ; Bibliotheca Osleriana, 7720 : "A reproduction in exact facsimile (even to the rubbed binding !) of Laennec own copy of his thesis, with his MS, notes and additions on margins and blanks and on 5 separate leaves. One of 500 copies. A pr. descriptive note by Prof. Maurice Letulle, 1923, is inserted ; without it, this imitation might easily pass for the original." [Attributes: Hard Cover]
