        The World Crisis:

London: Thornton Butterworth Limited,, 1923–31. 1911–1914; 1915; 1916–1918; The Aftermath; The Unknown War: The Eastern Front. 5 volumes in 6, octavo. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in dark blue morocco, titles gilt to spines, raised bands, single ruled gilt panel to compartments with rampant lion device gilt to the first, fifth and sixth, single rule to boards, autograph block to front boards, twin rule to turn-ins, burgundy endpapers, gilt edges. Illustrated throughout with maps and charts (many folding). Some occasional light foxing otherwise an excellent set in a fine binding. First editions, first impressions, with errata slip in volume IV; The Aftermath is the second state of the first printing (with the two-line errata slip at p. 9). Inscribed by the author on the front fly-leaf of volume 1 "Inscribed by Winston Churchill 1948." Working with astonishing speed and energy, Churchill produced this mammoth history of the First World War in the aftermath of electoral defeat. The work deals with his reorganization of the Royal Navy in the years leading up to the War, defends his Gallipoli policy, and criticises Haig's strategy. "Although parts of The World Crisis were highly autobiographical, drawing on documents from Churchill's private papers, the book as a whole was a stupendous narrative of the war in Europe featuring masterly set-piece accounts of major battles. Dictated to secretaries as he strode up and down the room, it exhibited his passionate interest in war and his romantic conception of the 'true glory' of the troops who perished on the Somme" (ODNB). In aim and method, it foreshadows his Second World War.

Cesta k modernímu ornamentu [The Path to Modern Ornamentation]

Borský a ?ulc, Prague 1923 - Quarto (29 × 20 cm). Original pictorial portfolio consisting of 13, [1] pp. of text and 33 numbered lithographed plates on card stock, including one printed in blue and red. The portfolio with nicks to extremities and lightly dust-soiled; contents very good or better. "Pedagogization of modern art is a salient feature of Czech modernism. Wellner's collection of decorative design comprises both angular and rondo-cubist patterns" (Karel Toman, Czech Cubism and the Book, 174). On Wellner's book in the context of Czech "cubist" design, see Toman, Cubism and the Book, p. 174. Rare; not in KVK, OCLC.

Autographed Letter Signed about childbirth on personal letterhead

Buffalo, NY, 1923. unbound. 1 page, 7.25 x 8.5 inches, Buffalo, New York, January 24, 1923, writing to one of his disciples about Internal Podalic Version, in full: "Your letter just arrived and I will answer it now just to be sure how glad I was to hear from you. I was also glad to hear that you are doing well. The OB work will come, it may be a little slow at first, but remember that the general work makes a good foundation. A man during general work makes friends who later can be used in the special times. Take your time & do not hurry, you will do Versions in time I am sure. Come & see me at anytime. Dr. Reynolds is still handling the Chloroform & will be glad to hear from you that everything is O.K." Also included is an original prescription written by Dr. Potter on his personal script pad for a Ziegler Cord Clamp, used to tie the umbilical cord during childbirth. The letter has natural folds and slight discoloration and creasing on the left side; still in very good condition. The prescription is in fine condition. World acclaimed but controversial American Obstetrician best remembered for his practice of the groundbreaking but dangerous method of childbirth called Internal Podalic Version; changing the position of the fetus within the uterus during childbirth (breach births). A pioneer in the study of childbirth, both his technique and the equipment he developed were unique to him and his few disciples -- yet he performed over 25,000 successful childbirths in a career than spanned half a century. Today doctors usually deliver by Cesarean section any fetus not in the proper position.

Meine Augen sind müde. Plakatmanifest und Ausstellungskatalog 'Malereien von Hundertwasser' 17. Okt. - 24. Nov. 1957.

31,5 x 89 cm. 1 Bogen, beidseitig bedruckt (Offset), gefaltet.

Hiladi i druga noč [Die 1002. Nacht]. Mit einem Originalholzschnitt von Aleksandar Deroko

RISTIĆ Marko; DEROKO, Aleksandar; MILOJEVIĆ, Miloje: Le Balai du Valet [(Der Besen, das Ballett, der Ball) des Dieners]. Hiladi i druga noč [Die 1002. Nacht]. »Kasina« 16-II-1923. Mit einem Originalholzschnitt von Aleksandar Deroko. Belgrad: 1923. 8°. (19,7 x 13 cm). Vgl. Vlajnić-Grujić, Sanja, Hg.: The Works of the Composer Miloje Milojevic. Belgrad: 1998, S. 263; Jović, Bojan: Transmental Sheherezade. On the interwar avant-garde balls in Belgrade and Paris (Summary). In: Musikologija, no. 14 (2013), S. 109 u.       [Paris]: Contact Publishing Co., 1923. First edition. Paperback. Very good. Blue paper wrappers lettered in black; small 8vo. 93 pages. A scarce book, one of 300 printed though the bibliographer notes "many of these may not have been distributed" [as many as half may have been confiscated by the Post Office]. One of the great Modernist works, one that paved a new road diverging from the work of Pound and Eliot, grounded in American colloquialisms that many others would follow. With the great poems (not named here, given names later) "Red Wheelbarrow", "To Elsie" ("The pure products of America/ go crazy") and the title poem ("The Road to the Contagious Hospital"), among others. Extremities toned, light fold to front cover, which is starting, gift plate to a College tipped to half-title, but a very good copy lacking the very rare glassine jacket. One of the few to surface in recent years, and superior to most. Wallace A7. The Dijon printer Maurice Darantiere printed this and other books for publisher Robert McAlmon including McAlmon's own A HASTY BUNCH; he also printed James Joyce's ULYSSES for Sylvia Beach.
