Zane Grey
1920. Condition: Very Good. Very Good. Photo-documentation of family hunting trips near Tonto Basin, Arizona including 151 silver gel and b&w photo prints. Black pliable album covers; "ZG Tonto Basin" lettered on upper cover in yellow paint; housed in a modern blue cloth clamshell box. Album measures 15 -1/2" x 9 -1/4"; photos measure from 3-1/2" x 6" to 7" x 10" and are mounted on recto and verso of black album leaves. Album covers have moderate wear to all edges; photos are in very good to fine condition with some having light silvering. Photos taken circa early 1920s. The content of this album depicts striking and candid images, including the hunting party navigating Rim County, turkey and bear hunting, camping in winter, and few images of saguaro cacti. The multiple hunting parties included men, women and a few children. Many images depict a forested camp, likely Turkey Spring's Camp where Grey often hunted, and a few images show an unknown cabin in the winter. There are numerous images of Zane Grey, and possibly his son Romer Zane Grey. Other persons identified include Anderson Lee "Babe" Haught, Grey's hunting guide in Arizona throughout the 1920s; and George Takahashi, Grey's cook who traveled with him to Rim Country a few times, cooking and processing meat for the hunting party. Zane Grey first visited Mogollon Rim country in 1918, quickly fell in love with the area's splendor, hired the Haughts to build him a cabin, and spent the next ten years writing and hunting there (Pyle, Jayne Peace, "Images of America - Payson"). He quit the area in 1929 after a dispute over … [Click Below for Full Description]

Anonym [d.i. Erich Lamm?]
Frisches Exemplar. Polunbi 9 ("unbrauchbar zu machen"). 2, 8 ("eingezogen"). Zu Ewers: Bilderlex. III, 358.

Ludendorff, Erich
Berlin: Ernst Siegfried Mittler und Sohn. Both printed 1920, the first volume is 5. Auflage, signed by Ludendorff on flyleaf and with the recipient's address (Mr. Aage Nilsen, Grand Central Terminal) possibly in Ludendorff's hand on a piece of paper tipped to pastedown; second volume is a first printing, 1920, inscribed with two lines in pencil and signed, dated 1927, also with a similar piece of paper bearing Nilsen's address tipped to flyleaf. Both volumes are large 8vo 99.5 inches, 24 cm), mustard cloth backed paper covered boards with spine decorations in red and black, covers printed in red and black against tan background, very good, light strain to inner hinge of second volume and with just a touch of edgewear to preliminary pages; printed on tanning and slightly brittle paper, but a very good well preserved set, with the first volume have a pocket at rear containing ten maps and charts as called for. Ludendorff was, alongside Hindenburg, in command of the German military strategy and efforts during WWI from 1916-1918, winning some major battles, before the Spring Offensive of 1918 ended in failure, with Ludendorff demoted in October 1918. After that he engaged in far right nationalist politics, blaming Jews and Bolsheviks for the failure of his military strategy, a participant in Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch, and a strong advocate of "total war" in which he argued that peace is just an interval between wars, not the other way around. An uncommon signature, and both volumes rarely found together. Very Good.

Grimke, Angelina W.
Boston: The Cornhill Company, [1920]. First edition. Octavo collates complete: 96, [8 blank]. Original cloth backed boards with gilt to spine and cover. Only the slightest touch of shelfwear to extremities of cloth at spine. Internally clean and tight. An exceptional copy of this history-making drama, which has only come to auction three times. Angelina W. Grimke, named after her activist great aunt, made history with her play Rachel. Considered the first play published and produced by an African American woman, and to have an all black cast. Rachel was, as a result of this, "the first attempt to use the stage...in order to enlighten the American people relating to the lamentable condition of ten millions of Colored citizens in this free republic" (NAACP). First presented in 1916 at the Myrtill Minor Normal School, where Grimke taught English in Washington, DC, the play was soon after produced in New York and Cambridge. The granddaughter of a slave owner and a slave, in addition to being the descendant of one of the earliest and most outspoken intersectional feminists, Grimke was uniquely positioned to critique U.S. race relations at a time when the country sat poised between Emancipation and the Civil Rights Movement. An exceptionally scarce and important play. Near Fine. Near Fine.

Nicholas Roerich (/ˈrɛrɪk/; October 9, 1874 - December 13, 1947) - known also as Nikolai Konstantinovich Rerikh (Russian: Никола́й Константи́нович Ре́рих) - was a Russian painter, writer, archaeologist, theosophist, perceived by some in Russia as an enlightener,[1] philosopher, and public figure, who in his youth was influenced by a movement in Russian society around the spiritual. Covers with very minor damage: gold on spine is greened, minor staining, pinhead dent to rear board. Corners firm, spine ends firm. No smell. No foxing or spotting. Facsimile dust jacket created by me so that I could print on thicker archival paper. This one will not tatter so easily over the years. Now in Brodart cover for extra protection. MCNAB, William, [MOULTON, John, foreword], [QUINAN, K. B., association]
London: His Majesty's Stationery Office, no date [1920]. [Munitions Factory Plans] SIGNED BY KENNETH BINGHAM QUINAN, one of just 1000 copies. Large octavo (28 x 19cm), pp.xvi; 145 [1]. With 24 large folding plans and diagrams. SIGNED and dated 3rd November 1920 by Quinan in black ink to front pastedown. Publisher's green quarter cloth with black titles to spine. Tan paper-covered boards with black titles. Bookseller's ticket to upper board. Light occasional spotting, offsetting to endpapers. Boards a little bowed, some bumps to edges, rubbing to extremities, cloth to spine sunned, spine ends rolled, some rubbing to joints, small split at the foot of the spine. Very good. Cited by David Lloyd George as a key figure in the struggle against Germany during the First World War, Quinan was responsible for building and running several highly efficient explosive factories in Britain during that period. Having joined the family explosives company in California during the 1890's, he later moved to South Africa with his uncle to make explosives for the mining industry, before being summoned to Britain by Lord Moulton at the outbreak of war. In the introduction McNab notes that 'a large amount of technical information has been produced and collected by Mr. Quinan and those immediately associated with him, and it was felt that as much as possible of this information should be made available to the public.'.

Lewis, Sinclair
New York: Harcourt Brace and Howe. 1920, First Edition, first issue with perfect type at folio on page 54 and 'may' on page 387. Hardcover. Very Good in a later issue dust jacket and custom blue morocco slipcase. Early fraying to the cloth at the spine ends and corners; 2 pinhole sized dents to the rear board; clean contents; sound binding. The jacket is likely from 1921 as it has 'Harcourt Brace and Co.' on the spine; it has the same image as the first (silhouette in front of the 'Rosebud Movie' billboard) and all of the advertised titles were published on or before 1921, when Harcourt Brace and Howe switched over to Harcourt Brace and Co. There is a blurb for 'Main Street' on the rear panel that notes 'Over 125,000 sold'. The price is $2.00. The jacket is still quite fresh, at least Very Good+: the spine panel is sunned just a touch, there is also very shallow chipping at the crown of the spine and the upper corners; finally, a single 1/2-inch closed snag to the top edge of the rear panel. DJ with reviews for the book on the front flap; $2.00 price present. A truly sparkling jacket. Clamshell slipcase in full blue morocco with gilt titles; Fine condition. We do not know how this later jacket came to be matched up with a first issue of the book. Digital images available upon request. Very Good / Very Good+. [Attributes: First Edition]
