John Wisden
Hi, This lot is an 1916 Original Wisden , Rebound with Covers In Good to Very Good condition. The boards are in dark brown , a nice binding but with a small bump to one corner , inside the front cover is excellent , slight spotting and 42/- to the top on pencil. Internally there is a little bit of thumbing to the top of the book and the corners but the pages are nice and clean, a couple of marks to the rear cover but again the cover is of a high standard. Tightly bound. Rare.

Here we have an 1916 Wisden, in Good Condition. Rebound without the covers. Once part of the MCC Library. Hence a very special book to own. The boards are in leather and quite old with M.C.C. to the front and tidy gilt to the spine. It feels nice in your hand. A bookplate to the binders page at the front but otherwise no library markings. Bound without the covers , otherwise complete but clean pages within. Gold page block with slight trimming and wear to the top of the spine.

Hi, This lot is a 1916 Original Paperback Wisden. It is in OK to Good Condition. The main thing to bring to your attention is that a previous owner put some tape to the spine, the binding seemed ok so I removed it and the spine paper was intact underneath, it has however left some residue around the spine. The spine paper is unhurt apart from the residue so no idea why the tape was added. (Perhaps as the others had it on too). The residue can be scrapped off but the cover is lighter where the tape was. So rubbing by the spine for about an inch as shown. The front cover has wear and loss to the bottom right hand corner and the first few and last few pages are dog eared, Very Nicely priced for an original 1916 paperback.

Hi, This lot is an Original 1916 Wisden Paperback with facsimile spine. This is in Very Good condition, the only two things to note is a small rubbing to the front cover on the right and the spine is a slightly different colour to the book. Other than that is is magnificent and a very rare year. The covers are clean, nice and tall. They are nice and bright yellow too. A nice new spine with text has been added , it is neat and tidy but not an exact copy of an original Wisden. Excellent inside with clean pages and tightly bound. Tip top. New spine professionally added which makes the book readable and stops it falling apart.

Hi, This lot is an Original 1916 Wisden Paperback - the rarest 20th Century Paperback. This lot is in Good condition. The only down side is that there are 2 pieces of tape to the covers which are strengthening the spine, there is also a small loss to the spine cloth with some of the text of 1916 missing. Other than this it is a very nice book, very clean pages inside, tightly bound and 100% original. A hard year to find and at a reduced price due to the tape to the covers.

Hi, This lot is an Original 1916 Wisden Paperback - the rarest 20th Century Paperback. This lot is in Very Good condition. Other than the spine I would say it was wonderful. The covers arenice and clean , hardly a mark but there is a pencil 2/- to the top left hand corner otherwise super covers, internally nice white pages , some thumbing to the top tight hand corner but very good otherwise. The spine paper has had some restoration to the base and a few letters are missing (Wisde). A nice book.

Hi, This lot is an 1916 Original Wisden , Rebound with covers. The binding is a rebind but the outside boards look identical to that of a hardback, so not quite a a publishers rebind, but I've marked it up as such above as it is akin to it. This book is in Very good condition. There are a couple of marks to the front board but inside it is very white and clean , odd spot but very few, no trimming, a fabulous looking book, could be a 9/10,

GENERAL STAFF, INDIA.
Simla, Printed at the Government Monotype Press, 1916. Small 8vo. Original eggshell cloth wallet binding, spine and front cover lettered in black; pp. [2], iv, 211, folding lithographic map in three colours of Lower Mesopotamia, north-eastern Arabia and the Gulf coast down to Tanajib (in front pocket); cloth a bit marked and rubbed, internally very good. Rare first edition of a top-secret military publication. This book reports on the ups and downs of the Saudi dynasty based in Najd, the expansion and waning of power during the 19th century, the first appearance of the Ottomans in 1818, who were driven from the country in 1831. The authors then go into detail about the more recent events and rise of the Saudi dynasty and give an outline of British operations on the Gulf and in Iraq. The amount of details on the geography, infrastructure and military strength of the enemy is astonishing. Kuwait features strongly in this handbook, most likely derived from Captain Shakespear's gathering of intelligence and topographical data. Kuwait is described as a Sheikhdom having to balance the influence of the Ottoman Empire (which had a colony South of Kuwait, Al Hasa), Wahhabism, the Ibn Saud family, and British interests. 'The population is Muhammadan, Arab fashion, that is tolerant to others and not over-rigid to themselves. The Wahaby faith is proscribed, and all the effort of the Najd have never succeeded in making one single proselyte at Kuwait' (p. 40). The harbour is described as 'a fine bay some 20 miles long and 10 miles wide' with a hill fort 180 feet above sea level. 'It is a … [Click Below for Full Description]

Meegeren, Han von

Carl Sandburg 1st 1/1
1916. Chicago Poems FIRST EDITION/PRINTING/STATE PRESENTATION COPY SIGNED, DATED, AND INSCRIBED by Carl Sandburg Hardcover with No Dust Jacket This is a remarkable, one-of-a-kind PRESENTATION COPY of Chicago Poems, FIRST EDITION/FIRST PRINTING/FIRST STATE with all points, which is SIGNED, DATED, AND INSCRIBED by Carl Sandburg. On May 12, 1916, one month or so after Chicago Poems had its first printing in April 1916, Mr. Sandburg inscribed this book to Salmon O. Levinson (1865-1941), a prominent Chicago attorney, philanthropist, and world peace advocate (later, one of the drafters of the international Kellogg-Briand pact to outlaw war). This recipient was a particularly special one for Mr. Sandburg: In 1913, Mr. Levinson had established the annual and permanently endowed Levinson Prize for "the best poem or group of poems by a citizen of the United States," which is still presented annually by the Poetry Foundation. In 1914, Mr. Sandburg was the very first recipient of the Levinson Prize; he won it for a group of nine "Chicago Poems" published in the March 1914 edition of the Poetry Foundation's Poetry magazine, most of which (including "Chicago" and many others) would be included in this book. Mr. Sandburg reportedly said that the (then) $200 Levinson Prize "octupled" his bank account. It is this connection between Mr. Levinson and Mr. Sandburg that makes this signed, dated, and inscribed presentation copy so significant. This book was Mr. Sandburg's first collection of poems published by a mainstream publisher, and it established Mr. Sandburg as a major literary figure. Th … [Click Below for Full Description]

Biesalski, Konrad & Mayer, Leo
[Click Below for Full Description]

True author's presentation offprint in the original wrappers, of Einstein's obituary for Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach. - Edition: Mach is particularly known as influential philosopher of science for his contemporaries. Through his criticism of Newton's theories of space and time he for instance foreshadowed Einstein's theory of relativity. - Condition: Corners and margins of wrappers with some very small faults, cover slightly water-stained, paper minimally foxy, otherwise solid copy. - Rarity: Present copy is imprinted „Überreicht vom Verfasser" (presented by the author) on the upper right corner of the first page, which indicates it's utmost rarity, as author's presentation offprints of Einstein papers, from any journal or any period, were printed in a small print run for the use of the author only.
