Lowell, Percival
Lynn, MA: Thos. P. Nichols & Son Co, 1915. FIRST EDITION, OFFPRINT IN ORIGINAL WRAPPERS OF VOLUME I OF LOWELL'S PREDICTION OF THE EXISTENCE OF A PLANET BEYOND THE ORBIT OF NEPTUNE, here also calculating its probable position. 9 plates are included. Lowell's 1903 hunch about the existence of a ninth planet led him, in 1905, to organize his observatory staff and task them with carrying out a systematic search for "a planet out there as yet unseen by man" (Lowell, Lowell Observatory, The Story of Pluto). Eleven years later, the product of that work was the mathematical, observational, and photographic studies he then published in 1915 - the work offered here -- Memoir on a Trans-Neptunian Planet.' While Lowell died the following year, his work survived his death and "culminated in 1930 with the discovery of Pluto at Lowell Observatory by Clyde W. Tombaugh" (Schindler, Pluto and Lowell Observatory). "The first phase of Percival Lowell's hunt for Planet X ran from 1905 to 1909 . Lowell and his small team of 'computers'... carried out a series of calculations based on the observed perturbations of Uranus, pinpointing likely locations for the new planet . [In 1910] Lowell redoubled his mathematical efforts by incorporating the latest technology .With new calculations and improved equipment, Lowell estimated locations of Planet X and published his findings in the 1915 Lowell Observatory publication, Memoir on a Trans-Neptunian Planet. "Unfortunately, Lowell died the following year, before he had a chance to complete a photographic search in the targeted area of the sky. … [Click Below for Full Description]

Niels Bohr
London: Taylor & Francis, 1915. Very good. The Quantum Theory of Radiation Bohr, Kramers, Slater. Taylor and Francis, London, 1924. First edition of Bohr, Kramers, and Clarke's influential paper , 'The Quantum Theory of Radiation,' was the renunciation of the classical form of causality in favor of a purely statistical description. Even the distribution of energy and momentum between the radiation field and the 'virtual oscillators' constituting the atomic systems was assumed to be statistical, the conservation laws being fulfilled only on the average. This was going too far: the paper was hardly in print before A. H. Compton and A. W. Simon had established by direct experiment the strict conservation of energy and momentum in an individual process of interaction between atom and radiation. Nevertheless, this short-lived attempt exerted a profound influence on the course of events; what remained after its failure was the conviction that the classical mode of description of the atomic processes had to be entirely relinquished" (Dictionary of Scientific Biography). New York: George H. Doran Company, 1915. Cover has what appears to ring stain on it. Various other small stains on cover. Spine has crease on it. Binding is starting to break and is visibly compromised until about page 3, and then again on back cover. Page 1 has fallen out, but is still present. Page 11/12 has very small tear at the bottom. Numerous pages throughout have small stains. See photos to get a sense of overall condition, and more photos can be sent on request. Lowell, Percival
Thos. P. Nichols & Son Co, Lynn, MA, 1915. Lowell and his small team of 'computers'. carried out a series of calculations based on the observed perturbations of Uranus, pinpointing likely locations for the new planet . Eleven years … [Click Below for Full Description]

MAYAKOVSKY, Vladimir Vladimirovich.
Petrograd Gramotnost, 1915. First edition; small 8vo (17 x 13 cm); 63pp.; ink Cyrillic ownership inscription on title-page dated 'March 1916', monogram stamp to verso of front wrapper, slight wear to right lower corner of pages; original printed orange wrappers with minor repairs, otherwise in excellent condition. first edition of one of Mayakovsky's major works - a cornerstone of Russian Futurism. Heavily modified, the poet's revolutionary sentiments were not accepted by the Imperial censor, who requested the original title The Thirteenth Apostle be changed. Despite not being the complete version, the text was incredibly popular and Mayakovsky wrote in his introduction to a later edition that the text is 'a catechism for contemporary art'. The work is dedicated to his muse Lilya Brik, wife of his publisher and life-long friend Osip Brik. Mayakovsky was not discrete with his admiration for Lilya and the two had a passionate affair lasting six years. Filipp Matveevich Vermel', a poet, translator and contemporary of Mayakovsky published his work in Futurist journals under the pseudonym D. Varavvin. A collection of his own poems titled Kovsh [bucket] was published in 1923 but he later chose to focus on translation rather than writing verse. Unfortunately, as Stalin's purges took a grip of the Moscow literary circle, Vermel' was arrested on charges of spying. He was shot 11 days later. [Attributes: First Edition; Soft Cover]

Description: This is an original 1915-1916 Play script used in the Production of "Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up". It is written by J. M. Barrie. This script is complete and it is 151 pages long. This is the actual Play Script used during the Production of the 1915-1916 Play at the New Theatre, St. Martin's Lane W, London. The Character Peter Pan was played by, Unity More. This rare Peter Pan script represents the first London production of J. M. Barrie's classic play that was produced outside the Duke of York's Theatre, where the play was presented annually during the Chistmas season from 1904 until the 1914-15 season. Please view the pictures above carefully. This original script is over a 100 years old, some of the pages inside have foxing. This script is in good overall condition for it's age and for being used during the production. It has a custom bound cover which shows the appropriate signs of wear for being used during the production. Keep in mind that this cover was not meant to be stored on a book shelf, it was meant to protect the script from all of the usage it would endure during the production. NOTE: The name Gladys Cooper is written in pencil over the name Peter Pan which means that this original 1915-1916 script was also re-used for a later production. For both the 1923 and 1924 Christmas shows at the Adelphi Theatre, Gladys Cooper played the title character in Peter Pan, while also playing several other roles at that theatre during those two years. 1915. EXCELLENT! This book may be an original draft with hand painted watercolors and hand written text! This book is very interesting. I cannot ascertain 100% whether the illustrations and text are hand done or are rather the product of a high-quality printing method. The way the book is bound and assembled however, with cloth tape attaching the pages, lead me to believe that this is the original hand written, published manuscript. The book is written in Sutterlin script, a cryptic, old form of cursive German, and many early children's books were written in this manner. The title is: "Das Bilderbuch für brave und bose Kinder" (Picture book for brave and evil children) by Otto Geigenberger. The book was first published bu Hain-Verlag (publishers) in Munich in 1915. The illustrations were most probably done by the author, as the plates appear to have Geigenberger's pencil signature on each. (a tiny test erasure verified this) If the book is in fact the original manuscript from which the book was printed, I think that it has some real value. In researching this book,I found 3 copies in " World Cat "! One is at Princeton University and the other two are in Germany, I also learned that the book was published in 1915 and republished again in 1924. This book has the year 1924 hand written in it but some German text too which I cannot make out to research further. I took the book to Swann Galleries, an auction house that deals in fine arts items. A young girl examined it and said it appeared, to hereto be hand colored with hand written text but she felt that the illustrations may … [Click Below for Full Description]
