1916. Le Tissage aux Cartons et son Utilisation Decorative dans l'Egypte Ancienne By A. Van Gennep et G. Jéquier The authors look into the costumes and textiles of Ancient Egypt and the possibility that the Egypians used the technique of tablet (or card) weaving. Although this has subsequently been proved not to be the case, it is, nevertheless, an exciting publication. Published in 1916 by Neuchatel: Delachaux & Niestle S. A., Editeurs, edited by A. van GENNEP and G. Jequier and signed by both authors, 'Le Tissage aux Cartons et son Utilisation Decorative dans l'Egypte Ancienne' is a very rare book, limited to 150 copies, 125 of which are numbered, with a further 25 copies lettered A - Z (not for sale). This copy bares the letter S. The book is written in French and includes 12 plates, comprising 5 mounted colour plates, 6 black and white collotype plates, and 1 plate mounted with 5 pleated silk ribbons in imitation of the original textiles. There are also 135 illustrations within the 131 pages of text, printed on handmade, untrimmed paper. The linen covered decoated boards are clean, bright and in fine condition. The binding is secure and tight. Inside, there is a short, neat annotation to the top corner of the first and second front free end-papers. Otherwise, the interior is clean, fresh and in fine condition. An absolutely stunning copy. This book is featured in Wigan Lane Books online bookstore.

John Wisden
Hi, This lot is a 1916 Original Paperback Wisden. It is in OK to Good Condition. The main thing to bring to your attention is that a previous owner put some tape to the spine, the binding seemed ok so I removed it and the spine paper was intact underneath, it has however left some residue around the spine. The spine paper is unhurt apart from the residue so no idea why the tape was added. (Perhaps as the others had it on too). The residue can be scrapped off but the cover is lighter where the tape was. So rubbing by the spine for about an inch as shown. The front cover has wear and loss to the bottom right hand corner and the first few and last few pages are dog eared, Very Nicely priced for an original 1916 paperback.

New York: Brentano's, 1916. Scarce First American Trade Edition [CLARKE, Harry, illustrator]. ANDERSEN, Hans Christian. Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen. Illustrated by Harry Clarke. New York: Brentano's, [n.d., 1916]. First American trade edition. Quarto (11 x 7 5/8 inches; 280 x 194 mm.). 319, [1] pp. Sixteen mounted color plates (all but frontispiece with captioned tissue guards), twenty-four black and white plates, and ten decorative tail-pieces, mostly repeated throughout the text. Additional line drawings for the frontispiece, title-page, list of illustrations, self-portrait tail-piece, and "The Tinder-Box" title-piece. Original gray cloth, covers and spine pictorially stamped in black. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Minimal darkening to spine, partially unopened and a few leaves poorly opened, but only affecting blank margins. Neat ink presentation dated Christmas 1916 on front paste-down. A very good copy of a scarce title. "Mr. Clarke brings to Hans Andersen an entirely fresh interpretation, and he appeals to the intellectual emotions of art-lovers, who will find in his work satisfaction of their craving for new and unconventional treatment of themes which may never be exhausted while the spirit of life exists in art. Mr. Clarke is a craftsman who devotes to each drawing an infinity of pains which is little less than marvelous, and it is difficult to know which to admire most-his fresh conceptions or his delicate and intricate detail. The latter feature, by the way, has necessitated a very considerable amount of hand-graving upon the colour blocks, and these gi … [Click Below for Full Description]

Background: Created by Mitchell Loeb (1889-1968) Published by the Zionist Organization of America in the USA THIS POSTER IS FAMILY OWNED AND FRAMED WITH GLASS - SO RATHER HEAVY. I SEE LOTS OF TAPE LINES BEHIND THE GLASS SO PERHAPS IT WAS TAPED TO CARDBOARD. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A VERY HEAVY ITEM TO SHIP. Therefore I HOPING THERE IS A LOCAL BUYER. HOWEVER, IF THERE IS INTEREST, THE POSTER CAN BE SHIPPED AT THE COMPLETE EXPENSE OF THE PURCHASER. I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE POSTER TO FEDEX or Other Mailing options to DETERMINE HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO SHIP. This will be time consuming. I am offering it locally for now.

Buehrmann, Elizabeth
Original Platinum Print photograph by Elizabeth "Bessie" Buehrmann, 1916. 9 x 7 inches with border and frame to measure 14 x 10.5 inches. A wonderful photo of a boy in a sailor outfit transfixed by a sunroom aquarium. The photograph is signed and dated in pencil below the print, which is on a textured canvas-like surface. A shadow around the print appears to be original, forming a sort of border or mat around the photograph. Original frame "from the Shops of the Purnell Art Company... Baltimore". Some wear to the verso but photograph is excellent. Elizabeth "Bessie" Buehrmann (c1886 - c1963) was an American photographer and artist who was one of the pioneers of taking formal portraits of people in their own homes rather than in a studio. Successful at a young age, she was accepted as an Associate Member in Alfred Stieglitz's important Photo-Secession at just 18 years old. In 1909 Stieglitz included three of her prints in the prominent National Arts Club exhibition which he organized. Another famous photographer, Robert Demachy, insisted her prints be included in an important show he was organizing in Paris the next year. A major show of hers opened at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1908, and 73 of her photographs are in the permanent collection of the Met. An excellent print by this major photographer. Near Fine.

On April 9, 1892, Wolcott and Frank Canton led an army of hired guns toward Buffalo, WY. They had heard that two gunmen, Nate Champion and Nick Ray, were staying at the nearby K.C. ranch.
