Manuscript Account of 1914 Lima Military Coup

var: n.p., 1914. Hardcover. Very good. The author took with him in 1914 a copy of the first edition of Ernest Peixotto's "Pacific Shores from Panama" on a trip to South America. In it he recorded a diary of his trip, and inserted photographs he took along the way. Then, in Lima, he writes: "7 A.M. Feb. 4th. .. The revolution broke at 4a.m. this morning. The Palace across the Plaza was taken after an hour and a half of rifle and Gatlin gun fire... and so he fills a page with his impressions of the scene. Guillermo Billinghurst was overthrown on February 4, 1914, in a military coup headed by colonel Oscar R. Benavides, Javier and Manuel Prado, and conservatives members of the Civilista Party. "Feb. 5th ... The President was seized + thrown into prison, his only loyal officer the Minister of War was killed..." Nearly all of the photographs are filled on their backs with descriptions; most are of a travelogue type, but some are of the coup. On one of a soldier standing before dead bodies, "The soldier ... was undecided whether to chase me or have his 'picture tuk'. Vanity won..." Book is worn and shaken; sold for the diary and photographs, many of which were tipped to the pages of the book. The name is taken from the owner's signature on the first page of the Preface; but the last name is a trifle indistinct and may be Cockran or something similar. All photographs are signed with "W.S.C."

The Fair Ladies Of The Winter Palace

London - Holden & Hardingham 1914 - A first edition of this salacious history of the Imperial Russianwomen, from their seclusion in the 17th century to their extravagant domestic dominion in the 19th. The author protests in the preface that he is not writing merely for the gratification of the prurient, but also has endeavoured to acquaint the reader with the history of woman in Russia. Illustrated with 16 plates showing the portraits of his subjects as well as a frontispiece. An interesting work precisely because of thetime of its publication;it was to turn out to be the very twighlight of that corrupt dynasty, and this work is excellent evidence for how theRussian monarchywas perceived abroad in that moment. Condition: In a full crushed morocco Asprey binding. Externally lovely with almost no discernible wear. Internally, clean and bright and firmly bound.       ca. 1914,, 1914. Lithographie Nr. 1/30 vom Künstler signiert.guter ZustandGeorg August Gaul (* 22.

Near the Base of Old Shiprock - Photograph

Very Good. c. 1914. B&W toned photograph of two Navajo men on horses in front of the Shiprock formation in New Mexico. Measures 14" wide by 11" tall. Light wear to all corners and small crease to bottom right corner. Light soiling to left edge of photograph. After reviewing a collection of 24 photographs acquired from the Pennington heir collection, it seems that most said photographs were artist proofs due to many identical images with slight variations in exposure. William Marion Pennington photographed people and landscapes across the Southern United States in the early 1900's. In 1907, he and fellow photographer, Lisle Updike opened Pen-Dike Studio in Durango, Colorado; Pennington managing the studio, doing portrait work and operating the dark room, and Updike taking photos in nearby towns and mining camps. In 1911 Pennington took sole control of the studio and renamed it Pennington Studio. According to the Library of Congress this photograph of Shiprock was published by Pennington and Wesley R. Rowland around 1914. The Shiprock formation is considered a sacred and religious site to Navajo peoples and is mentioned in many histories and legends. ; 1 pp .

International Design Award (1997). Er wurde zum Ehrenmitglied der Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts berufen (1995) und erhielt den Ehrendoktortitel des Royal College of Art in London (1997). Seine Arbeiten sind in allen großen internationalen Museen vertreten, u. a. im Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York und in der Neuen Sammlung in München. Hans J. Wegner starb im Januar 2007 im Alter von 92 Jahren in Dänemark (Carl Hansen & Son).

Das schmerzliche Meer. Frühe und neue Gedichte.

Erste Ausgabe. (Vgl. Thomas Rietzschel. In: Walter Rheiner. Kokain. Lyrik, Prosa, Briefe. Leipzig 1985, S. 285-303.) - Einbandkanten stark berieben, Bll. teils stockfleckig. - Raabe/Hannich-B. 245. 3. - Jentsch 40.

Near the Base of Old Shiprock - Photograph

Very Good. 1914. Toned photograph of two Navajo men on horses in front of the Shiprock formation in New Mexico. Measures 14" wide by 11" tall. The technique of dodging has been used to manipulate the exposure of the photograph and allow the brown tones to fade out near the edges. Light wear to all corners and light soiling to back of photograph. The Shiprock formation is considered a sacred and religious site to Navajo peoples and is mentioned in many histories and legends. ; 1 pp .
