Pinski, David, editor
New York: Wochenschrift Pub. Co. 1912 - 1st edition, Period boards, 8vo. 318 pages. In Yiddish. Edited by leading Yiddish writer David (Dovid) Pinsky (1872–1959). "In 1890–1891, Pinski lived in Vitebsk and was active in the local chapter of Hoveve Tsiyon. A year later, on his way to Vienna, hoping to study medicine, Pinski stopped in Warsaw, where he met Y. L. Peretz. Pinski remained in that city from 1892 to 1896. His first pieces in Yiddish were marked by his close collaboration with Peretz and the latter’s circle, who were developing new and radical approaches to modern Yiddish literature in particular, and Jewish culture in general. He became one of the main contributors to Yontev-bletlekh (1894–1896) and to the anthology Literatur un lebn (Literature and Life; 1894), publications under Peretz’s editorship that played a pioneering role in disseminating radical and socialist thought among Jewish workers, to the extent possible under tsarist censorship. Peretz and Pinski positioned themselves quite close to the founders of the Jewish labor movement in Eastern Europe, and laid the foundation for Jewish worker literature in its various genres: serious fiction, popular scientific articles, and feuilletons. Pinski was also involved in distributing publications by the group, and he helped to organize zhargonishe komitetn ("jargon committees"), which established libraries and disseminated reading matter to workers. In his travels, he came into direct contact with groups that then formed the core audience for modern Yiddish literature. Pinski mainly wrote … [Click Below for Full Description]

[Rackham, illus.] Barrie J.M
Hodder and Stoughton, 1912. First printing of the large paper and extra-illustrated edition. With 50 tipped-in color plates, plus 12 full page line drawings and illustrations in the text by Arthur Rackham. 4to, original pale green buckram lettered and elaborately decorated in gilt on spine and cover, in the RARE dustjacket. 123. An especially fine copy, very rare in the dustjacket, only minor and far less then expected age evidence. The best edition of Rackham's most desirable book: here, first appeared the colored frontispiece, the twelve additional line drawings also appear in this edition for the first time, and the color plates are interspersed throughout the text, rather than being bound together at the rear as in the 1906 edition. This appears to be a variant issue--the binding is buckram rather than the usual coarse cloth, and the dustjacket is a variant printing. PETER PAN is Rackham's most famous book. Within, we find many of the artist's best loved and most easily recognized paintings. Perhaps the Pall Mall Gazette summed it best when they said, "Mr. Rackham seems to have dropped out of some cloud in Mr. Barrie's fairyland, sent by a special providence to make pictures in tune with his whimsical genius."

Hutchings, David F. Richard de Kerbrech
160 S. : zahlr. Ill. 28 cm, Orig.-Pappband mit Schutzumschlag. Literaturangaben. [Click Below for Full Description]
