London, Methuen, 1911. Second Edition. First Impression. A nice copy in the rare jacket, and bearing Nesbit's ex-libris plate to the front pastedown. One can perhaps assume then that the present copy was Nesbit's own copy, which she and those after her have kept in very good shape. Second edition indicated on the copyright page as November 1911. The jacket is largely complete with a little chipping and a few short tears, but remarkable given the age (and the fact it appears to have been unprotected). Book itself has a little spotting to the foreedge. A nice copy. One of three Nesbit books in Bleiler. Single leaf of ads laid in. [5754, Hyraxia Books]. All items will be packed in bubble-wrap and either a cardboard book-wrap or a box where appropriate. Items over £200 will be shipped fully tracked, insured and will require a signature. If you'd like this service on cheaper items please utilise the expedited shipping. All photos are of the actual item for sale. Further photos can be provided. Izaak Walton
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1911. See pictures. Tiny scuff (dot size) along fore-edge of front board, visible in picture (barely, because it's so small). Also, the turn-ins have left an impression along the same endpapers. Else, a very nice, handsome copy of this beautiful classic. 1911 The Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton, in full green Moroccan leather with an onlay reproducing the endpaper design, 25 tipped-in color plates, signed by the illustrator and limited to 250 copies (limitation is the printing, there are not 250 copies of this binding). 1st released in 1653, just after the English Civil War, this work praising friendship, the countryside (pastoral) and (obviously) fishing must have been a welcomed respite from the turbulent times. Since, it's been the favorite of many sportsman, often reprinted and I've been lucky to offer many different editions. This is the nicest copy I've yet offered. EGOROFF (Marie).
[Click Below for Full Description]

[Futurist Music] Pratella, Balilla
Direzione del Movimento Futurista, 1911. Single sheet folded once to make [4]pp. Soft horizontal fold to middle with a few tiny spots of loss to the rear, else a very good example of this early Futurist manifesto, the first on music. The first musician to "surrender to the persuasion of promises and liberation", Pratella was courted early on by Marinetti to join his new movement that he hoped would breathe new life into Italian culture. Though not as nihilistic as Russolo's Art of Noises published three years later, he still makes what at the time, were revolutionary demands that musicians break from the traditional, proclaiming in a later manifesto that" the new order of disorder should be created by destroying the ancient schemes." Winch, Frank
S. L. Parsons & Col., Inc. Copyright is 1911. 224 pages. Boldly inscribed and signed by both authors on front free end page, and dated Sep. 1, 1911. Signed as W. F. Cody & "Buffalo Bill," as well as G. W. Lillie & "Pawnee Bill." Inscribed to Col. H. C. Austin (1834 - 1919; Second Chief of the United States Secret Service, appointed by U.S. Grant following the Civil War, and later retiring to Emporia, Kansas), whom Buffalo Bill addresses as his "life long friend." Book was likely acquired and signed on that date when both subjects, along with the Wild West Show, were performing in Emporia, Kansas. On the following blank page (recto of the portrait of Buffalo Bill), Whitley inscribes the book to his "Darling Grand Son, Whitley Austin (????-1995; Editor of the Salina Journal from 1949 to 1975) also in Emporia, Kansas and dated 1911. This book, then was part of Whitley Austin's collection that was donated and sold by the friends of the Salina Public Library following his death in 1995. A brief description and price from that sale is laid in, along with a newspaper clipped about the donation and sale. The clipping does not make mention of this specific title. It was from this sale that the most recent previous owner acquired this copy and his name can be provided with purchase. Amazingly complete provenance of this book for its more than 100 year life. Light general use and wear. Scattered light smudges. Rubbing along the edges of cloth covers. Top hinge is intact, though a little shaky. Volume is otherwise fairly tight.

'Die Anfänge der Majolikakunst in Toskana: Unter Besonderer Berücksichtigung der Florentiner Majoliken' 'The beginnings of Majolica art in Tuscany: With special consideration of Florentine Majolica'. Berlin: Julius Bard,1911. Folio plus (approx; 17 1/4 x 13 3/16 inches). 37 mounted photographic plates (18 color), numerous tipped-in photographic illustrations. Publisher's cloth, blocked and lettered in black. An important illustrated monograph on Italian majolica written by Wilhelm Bode (1845-1929) the German art historian and curator of what is now the Berlin State Museums. Number 196 of 200 numbered copies and as such very rare; a must for anyone interested in early Italian Majolica. This edition has an 'ex libris' bookplate / label that identifies the book to be once owned and in the collection of Thomas Fortune Ryan (1851-1928) an American tobacco, insurance and transportation magnate. Both Bode and Ryan have a wikipedia entry. Condition. Hardback Cover: The publisher's cloth is in good, rather than very good or above condition. The nature of the cloth suggests colour fading and some dust accumulation. There is some wear and bruising to the corners, edges and in particular the head and tale of the spine. There is clear evidence of a ingrained dirt mark along the bottom edge, both front and back as well as a previous attempt to diminish this mark (this however has only affected the cover, the internal pages show no evide … [Click Below for Full Description]

It tells the familiar story of the stage version, with Peter as an older child flying off with Wendy and the other Darling children to battle Captain Hook and his pirates, but Barrie added a final chapter to the book in which Peter returns for Wendy years later, when she is grown with a child of her own. The stage play itself was not published until 1928.

Fitzroy Maclean Signed Note WWII Churchill Ian Fleming James Bond
1911. Please see book description below as well as pictures! Note Signed (very rare) by Sir Fitzroy Maclean on His Estate Stationary (Strachur House) Close Friend of Ian Fleming - presumably used Maclean for his inspiration of James Bond Free Shipping Dust Jacket Protected by a Brodart Cover Please see pictures for more information and detail Sir Fitzroy Hew Royle Maclean, 1st Baronet, KT, CBE (11 March 1911 - 15 June 1996) was a Scottish soldier, writer and politician. He was a Unionist Member of Parliament from 1941 to 1974 and was one of only two men who during the Second World War enlisted in the British Army as a private and rose to the rank of brigadier, the other being future fellow Conservative MP Enoch Powell. Maclean wrote several books, including Eastern Approaches, in which he recounted three extraordinary series of adventures: travelling, often incognito, in Soviet Central Asia; fighting in the Western Desert Campaign, where he specialised in commando raids behind enemy lines; and living rough with Tito and his Yugoslav Partisans. It has been widely speculated that Ian Fleming used Maclean as one of his inspirations for James Bond. When war broke out in 1939 Maclean was prevented from joining the military because of his position as a diplomat. He was 2nd Secretary in the Foreign Office. Therefore, he resigned from the Diplomatic Service "to go into politics". After tendering his resignation he immediately took a taxi to the nearest recruiting office and enlisted as a Private in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was soon promoted to lance corporal and was … [Click Below for Full Description]
