A. Wahnschaffe, (1893). Contains 8 full page chromo-lithographic illustrations and 9 string-pull tabs that operate a bellows system to produce voices of animals. Light scuffing and wear on the corners and edges, some finger marks, previous owner`s inscription and partially erased owner`s name. Book conservation: 2 bellows strings replaced./ Ecken leicht rundgebogen, Kanten gering berieben. Sehr g … [Click Below for Full Description]

Schumann, Clara, Pianistin und Komponistin (1819-1896)
D[üsseldorf], 19. X, 1893. 3 SS. auf Doppelblatt. 8vo.

Expect the value of this book to only appreciate over time. That said, I'm still offering it at a lower price than I saw the last used copy go for! US BIDDERS: S&H is free! INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: this book will be sent to eBay's Global Shipping Program. Please bid ONLY if you intend to pay! If you have any questions, let me know! [Attributes: Signed Copy]

First edition of the author's monumental work in geometry and non-Euclidean geometry of n-dimensions. In 1900 Killing was the second recipient of the Lobachevsky prize, awarded by the Kazan Physical and Mathematical Society. / "On Weierstrass's recommendation Killing was appointed to a chair of mathematics at the Lyceum Hosianum in Braunsberg in 1882. Killing spent ten years in Braunsberg, isolated mathematically, but during this period he produced some of the most original mathematics ever produced. Lie algebras were introduced by Lie in about 1870 in his work on differential equations. Killing introduced them independently with quite a different purpose since his interest was in non-euclidean geometry. The classification of the semisimple Lie algebras by Killing was one of the finest achievements in the whole of mathematical research. The main tools in the classification of the semisimple Lie algebras are Cartan subalgebras and the Cartan matrix both first introduced by Killing. He also introduced the idea of a root system which appears throughout much of the algebra of today. Let us now examine in more detail how Killing's ideas on the classification developed." … [Click Below for Full Description]

Rock Island, IL: privately printed. First edition, 12mo, pp. [4], 300; original limp maroon cloth lettered in gilt on the upper cover; joints lightly rubbed, but generally near fine. Signed and dated (1901) by the author in pencil on the flyleaf. Despite the date of 1893 on the title page, Howes notes that the introduction is dated 1895. The author moved to the upper Mississippi in 1832 and settled in Galena, IL, frequently traveling up and down the river between St. Paul and other points on the Mississippi. While a large portion of the book is devoted to persons and events in the Civil War, there is much information on Galena, Rock Island, and Minneapolis, including prominent citizens and important events. There is also a 12-p. section on Mormonism in Illinois. Contained in a recent brown morocco clamshell box, lettered in gilt on spine. Howes M-169; Graff 2642; not in Flake, or Flake supplement. (Forgeries) Abraham Lincoln, Stephen A. Douglas, Eugene Field Jr., Harry Dayton Sickles
Columbus: Follett, Foster. First edition, later issue no '2' on p. 17. Cloth, very good, light wear to extremities, light abrasions from bookplate removal to pastedown, some foxing especially to endleaves, housed in quarter morocco and cloth slipcase, gilt titled. Forged signatures by Eugene Field and his partner in crime Harry Dayton Sickles: 'This is my book. Abraham Lincoln,' and 'his' hand 'Lincoln & Herndon', with Eugene Field's signature dated 1893 and the signature of R. M. Field (who was one of the lead attorneys in the Dred Scott case of 1857). All of these signatures are very very liikely to be phony. Eugene Field Jr.'s 1937 attestation at the rear fills up two pages. A curiosity, collectible as a Fields forgery, although the owner of this book, a wealthy collector in the Pittsburgh area, was crestfallen when I broke him the bad news that no, this was not Lincoln's copy. Very Good.
