(Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana:6054). First edition. The Deutsches Wochenschach was a weekly German chess magazine devoted to current events around the world, but with a focus on happenings in Germany. It was first published in 1884 and had a continuous run through 1927. Occasionally some weekly issues were combined. It incorporated Berliner Schachzeitung in 1898, which started in 1896. Some what of a scarce publication, Bibliotheca van der Linde-Niemeijeriana collection lacked volumes 1-5. A Large and extensive amount of period information on chess. Condition: Rebound in modern cloth, numbers 7 through 10, 13, 19/20, 23a, 24 through 26 and index supplied in quality facsimile copies else a very good copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

An attractive, unsophisticated set.The very first translation of Bra'tia Karamazovy [1879-1880] from the original Russian into any language, preceding the French version by four years and the English version by 28 years. The German public's interest in Dostoyevsky stemmed from the promotion and resounding success of 1882's German translation of Crime and Punishment.Scarce. No other copies currently for sale in the trade and no copies located outside of Europe in OCLC.

They depict a campsite; the hunter and guide in dense cover, aiming at a tiger; the hunter holding his rifle as dogs flush out a wild boar; and two groups of hunters and guides, with one group carrying a recently killed deer.

Little known account of the first travel to India of famous Russian artist Vasily Vereshchagin (1842-1904) written by his first wife Elizaveta Kondratyevna (1856-1941); nee Elizabeth Maria Fischer, German born, was married to Vereshchagin in 1871-90). The text was initially written in German, as Elizaveta Vereshchagina wasn't fluent in Russian, and then translated into Russian by Vereshchagin himself. The book was published in the well-known Saint Petersburg typography of Mikhail Stasyulevich, the first volume had two identical print runs, both issued in 1883. The book has never been reissued or translated into other languages. The book describes the Vereshchagin spouses' travel to India, Eastern Himalayas, Kashmir and Ladakh in 1874-76. Darüber hinaus war Brod Förderer der Komponisten Leo Janácek und Jaromír Weinberger. Er gilt auch als Entdecker des Dichters Franz Werfel.
