Er wurde 1877 zum Geheimen Regierungsrat ernannt und in der Folgezeit als anerkannter Fachmann für Maschinenbau und Industrietechnik vom Königreich Hannover als Abgeordneter zu internationalen Welt- und Industrieausstellungen entsandt. Rühlmann verfaßte mehrere Fachbücher über Mechanik und Maschinenlehre. Er gilt als Begründer der historischen Schule der Technik. Seiten partiell etwas fleckig, überwiegend aber sauber und fleckenfrei. Sehr schönes, würdiges Exemplar dieser einschlägigen Maschinenlehre, in der sich der Stand der Mechanisierung und Technisierung in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts in anschaulicher Weise widerspiegelt. Weitere Fotos auf der Homepage des Antiquariats (bitte Art.-Nr. auf der Angebotsseite in das Suchfeld eingeben).

        De La Demonialite Et Des Animaux Incubes Et Succubes.

      Isidore Liseux,, Paris: 1875 - Pagination: XVI, 224p. Modern black cloth over pebbled boards, gilt rules, title to spine in gilt on red label. Original paper wrappers bound-in, minor soiling, back wrapper with some staining at bottom, and old tape repair to bottom edge, no affect, else covers still excellent. Leaf edges uncut, a very clean copy with just a few foxing spots, no affect, overall contents about fine. Title page in red and black print, with small vignette. Text in Latin & French. We locate only one other copy for sale at time of description. Excellent copy of a very rare book. English translation: Demoniality and incubus and succubus animals where it is proved that there exist on earth reasonable creatures other than man, having like him a body and soul.This rare text limited to less than 600 copies in its first printing and sold out immediately, has long been thought a wonder. Sinistrari (1622-1701) was for a long time considered by many a fictitious author and the manuscript Liseux describes in the preface( he states from the Seymour sale of 1871) non existent. The catalog listing was indeed later found lost at Harvard University and Sinistrari is author of several now known works of philosophy and the occult. The book describes incubi and succubi as not being demons, but having body and soul, which allows them to copulate with humans and reproduce - separating them from Satan (being devil demons), and suggesting they are more like evil animals in more of a human form. Citations: Caillet 10218. Golden Encyclopedia Witchcraft IV: 1043. Coumont: 458: S71.1. Cornell Witchcraft: 510. First edition. Limited to 598 copies, our copy numbered 115. Rare. Quite rare, particularly in such a handsome copy. Jón Ólafsson made his enthusiastic report on Alaska, which was printed in Icelandic by the United States government. The scheme was not successful, however. This report is referenced in the bibliography entitled Vesturheimsprent, by Olafur Hjartar, p. 28.

        Report of a Mission to Yarkund in 1873;

      1875 - with historical and geographical information regarding the Ameer of Yarkund. First edition. Large folding map, 102 original sepia photographs. 4to. Later library cloth, a very good copy. xii, 573pp. Calcutta, Foreign Department Press, This report is both an extremely rare book and one of very great importance. While there is no proof that its issue was limited, its scarcity and the expense of printing the 102 photographs for each copy (work carried out by a commercial firm Bourne and Shepherd) imply that publication must have been very restricted. As to importance, the book recounts the exploits of the first official British mission to Yarkand, and its ruler Yakub Beg, and is practically the earliest first hand account of the country in English. The journey there and internal explorations are exhaustively covered, together with many detailed specific reports, for example one listing all the goods offered at a provincial market and another giving all the meteorological data collected by the Trigonometrical Survey Pandits. Apart from the foregoing mention must be made of the photographic illustrations which appear in the book. The wet plate apparatus needed to produce these images was cumbersome and the two officers who had responsibility for the work were much applauded by their commanding officer. The results do much to enhance the book, lending it an immediacy seldom found in official reports of this period. One of the photographers, Captain Chapman, gives, in chapter ten, a short resume of his cameras and chemicals together with their mode of transport and some comment on suitability of all the photographic equipment.
