Lord Macaulay 8 Leather bound Volume Set 1863
1863. Good Condition - please refer to photographs. The History Of England by Lord Macaulay 8 Leather bound Volume Set 1863 The earliest known set A leather bound eight volume set in very good condition. The History of England by Lord Macaulay. Published in London by Longman, Green, Longman, Roberts & Green. Printed by Spottiswoode and Co, London. Complete in eight volumes. With numerous illustrations. Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay, PC (25 October 1800 28 December 1859) was a British historian and Whig politician. He wrote extensively as an essayist and reviewer; his books on British history were hailed as literary masterpieces. Macaulay held political office as the Secretary at War between 1839 and 1841 and the Paymaster-General between 1846 and 1848. He played a major role in introducing English and western concepts to education in India. He supported the replacement of Persian by English as the official language, the use of English as the medium of instruction in all schools, and the training of English-speaking Indians as teachers. In his view, Macaulay divided the world into civilised nations and barbarism, with Britain representing the high point of civilisation. He was wedded to the Idea of Progress, especially in terms of the liberal freedoms. He opposed radicalism while idealising historic British culture and traditions. During the 1840s, Macaulay began work on his most famous work, The History of England from the Accession of James the Second, publishing the first two volumes in 1848. At first, he had planned to bring his history down to the reign … [Click Below for Full Description]

the General Assembly of Florida Books
The Acts and Resolutions Adopted by the General Assembly of Florida 1863-1865 Up for sale is a fantastic set of early Florida law books. This 4 book set includes 1863 - 1865. It is incredibly rare to find a sequential set of these early books for sale. These books cover the southern state of Floridas confederate years during the Civil War. The 1862 edition is 79 pages long plus the Index, 1863 is 60 pages plus Index, 1864 is 46 pages plus index, and 1865 is 146plus the Index to the Acts and Resolutions and the Index to the Constitution. Some acts include: An Act to authorize the removal of slaves and other property from the State An Act to suspend the collection of Taxes in counties held or controlled by the Enemy An Act to regulate Trade and Intercourse with the Indians An Act to aid the Confederate Government in the detection of Frauds An Act to provide clothing for troops from Florida in the service of the Confederate States An Act to create special tribunals for the trial of Capital Offences committed by Slaves, Free Negroes, and Mulattoes Article XVI Whereas, slavery has been destroyed in this State by the Government of the United States... These books are in nice condition. The only damage that I see is a small tear on page 75 of the 1862 edition, the first page of the 1865 edition which is pictured. These books have a contemporary library binding and a few rubber stamps. [Attributes: First Edition]

Richmond, Ritchie & Dunnavant, printers, 1863. SCARCE CONFEDERATE IMPRINT. 76 pp. Hardcover in period marbled boards. Lower corner has severely browned and is brittle -- it is believe this might have been a blood stain on the pages. Text in the area is mildly affected/darkened, but not apparent major loss to the text itself. Binding is secure and, apart from the stain, this book is complete and in remarkably decent condition! PARRISH & WILLINGHAM 1993. This copy bears the ownership (in pencil) of George A. Owens, who was Assistance Surgeon for the 35th Regiment of North Carolina Infantry. Not Ex-Lib. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

Dr. HERMANN KLENCKE - DIE BAULEUTE VON KÖLN (Originalausgabe 1863) Die Bauleute zu Köln oder Deutsche Kunst und Zunft. Roman.

JOSEPH MERRIN
Butterflying With the Poets; a Picture of the Poetical Aspect of Butterfly Life with Nature-Printed Illustrations. Gloucester: Published by the Author, 1863. 1st Edition. 8vo. pp. xv, 126; 30 nature printed butterfly specimens inset into 15 card mounts. Original full red morocco, gilt, heavily restored with new spine, many page edges professionally repaired. Privately printed by the author in Gloucester in 1863, it is believed that perhaps no more than five copies of this edition were printed; it was commercially re-issued the following year by Longmans. Henry Bradbury was the leading proponent of nature printing, printing two books on seaweeds and ferns in the 1850s using the process. This form of nature printing involved passing the plant between a steel plate and a lead plate, through two rollers closely screwed together. The plant embeds into the lead plate upon which coloured ink or inks are applied and from this copies can be produced. The term nature printing as used for this book refers to a different process used specifically for making impressions of butterfly wings involving sandwiching butterfly wings between two pieces of paper, and, by exerting pressure through a press, producing the coloured image of the wings. The difficulties in terms of specimens available, time, and expense means that editions are very small. Copac lists only two copies of this edition held at the British Library and the Bodliean; the 2nd edition is held by Cambridge and the National Library of Scotland.
