[CIVIL RIGHTS]
Boston, MA: , 1835. In this pamphlet, a pseudonymous author defends rights of conscience, speech, and the press, amidst the trials of Abner Kneeland for violating a rarely enforced 1782 Massachusetts statute against blasphemy. Includes a two-page manuscript laid in, "From the Boston Advocate, Nov. 19, 1834," describing Kneeland's trial and his representation of himself. 32 pp., 5¼ x 8⅝ in.Excerpts:"Among all the incidents of awakening interest which have excited the action, and called forth the opinion of the public during the past year, there is none which has occurred more vitally affecting, for good or for evil, according to its final termination, the civil liberties of the country, than the trial of Abner Kneeland, on an indictment for blasphemy. It strikes at the root of the liberty of conscience, and the freedom of the Press; and involves in its consequences the preservation or the destruction of the free institutions of this country." (3)The Massachusetts Constitution "intended to give, and does give, to all citizens freely to express and openly to publish their opinions upon religious subjects." (3)"the idea is forced upon the mind that the Almighty might possibly, if he saw fit, protect his own reputat … [Click Below for Full Description]

Heine, Heinrich. -
Etwa um 1835. 3 Seiten u. 1 Zeile auf S.4 (1 gefalt. Bogen) in Kl.-Quart-Format.(20,5 x 16,5 cm). [Click Below for Full Description]

John Frost
1835. Let me first state that there are zero books that I have found online that we're signed by John Frost. This is one of his early works and is as well very scarce. There is modern reprints for sale on line but no originals. The value of this book is in the signature and rarity. Please look at the pictures. John Frost, a Philadelphia school teacher turned writer, was born in Kennebunk, Maine, in 1800 and educated at Bowdoin and Harvard. He spent the majority of his early career as a teacher and a principal. When not engaged in the training of minds, Frost pursued his substantial literary ambitions, aspirations that did not always endear him to those of his students who were made to act as "assistants" in his various projects. Accusing Frost of manipulating their children for personal gain, several wealthy parents withdrew their financial support from his school, and he was forced to resign. Frost's passion for teaching proved "incongruous" with his love of literature, and "literature triumphed." In the years following his resignation from teaching, John Frost produced hundreds of books for the popular market, including a novel in 1841, Enoch Crosby: or, the Spy Unmasked: A Tale of the American Revolution, as well as travel accounts, captivity narratives, ancient histories, and broad and ambitious compendia with titles such as The Wonders of History, "comprising remarkable battles, sieges, feats of arms, and instances of courage, ability and magnanimity, occurring in the annals of the world, from the earliest ages to the present." Part of Frost's incredible productivity w … [Click Below for Full Description]

GIRDLESTONE, Charlotte?]
J. Mortimer, c. 1835?. Lithographic panorama on two sheets, each 120 x 980 mm, mounted in a sheep-backed portfolio, the spine worn. A couple of the joints professionally restored. Very Good. An old pencil note reads ?Drawn on stone by Charlotte Girdlestone, between 1830 & 1835.? One of the earliest panoramas of Regent?s Park, it is usually referred to as Mortimer?s Panorama; this pencil note is new information but with no authority to confirm it. Cheshire archives holds a sketchbook by Charlotte Girdlestone with scenes from Alderley and district, including Alderley church and rectory, Hare Hall, Lyme Hall and Little Moreton Hall dated 1837 - 40 which may be the same artist. Manchester University is the only location listed on Copac. Worldcat lists a copy in Queensland, Australia.
