Maurice 1833 Paris. Contemporary half leather. Devergie, Marie Nicolas (the elder). Clinique de la maladie syphilitique. Enrichie d'observations [...]. Susemihl. Paris, Maurice, 1833. Folio. 8 pages, 126 colored plates in lithography with 140 figures. Contemporary half leather (somewhat rubbed) - Extremely rare first edition of this atlas. - "The Clinique de la Maladies Syphilitique adorned with the most incredible pictures, was his magnum opus. Today this is considered the first description and illustration of pyoderma gangrenosum with all its complications. He was no advocate, as were many of his contemporaries, of mercurial preparations for the treatment of syphilis or topically. He felt that quicksilver caused more harm than it did good and he resorted rather to conservative measures... There were two famous physicians in France of the same name, Devergie. Marie Nicolas Devergie was designated aine, which is the French word for the elder. May this entry into the truly behemoth volume of the Pantheon of Dermatology ass one dignified pioneer of our discipline and pull him from oblivion" (Karl Holubar in: Löser/Plewig/Burgdorf, Pantheon of Dermatology 222-229). Here not present the two text volumes from 1826 and 1831. - A well preserved copy. Some browning and spotting in places.

        Psyche am Brunnen
