At the funeral of influential social thinker Claude-Henri de Rouvroy, comte de Saint-Simon (1760-1825), his disciples founded a movement to foster socio-political cooperation and development for the common welfare of humanity. [Click Below for Full Description]

- Antique print, untitled. Seated portrait of Mary, reading a girder book. This is one of the top panels of the Ghent Altarpiece. She wears a crown adorned with flowers and stars, and is dressed as a bride. The inscription above reads: "She is more beautiful than the sun and the army of the stars; compared to the light she is superior. She is truly the reflection of eternal light and a spotless mirror of God." Tinted lithograph on wove paper. Description: This gorgeous large old antique lithographic print originates from the monumental early lithographic work: 'Die Sammlung Alt- Nieder- un Ober-Deutscher Gamalde der Bruder Boisseree und Bertram, lithographiert von J.N. Strixner.', published in Stuttgart 1821-1836. This work was published in 38 parts, each containing 3 ?lithographs in a wrapper. This work depicts the painting collection of the brothers Sulpiz and Melchior Boisseree and Johann Bertram. This collection was acquired in this period by King Ludwig of Bavaria, and Strixner finished this work in Munich. At the time it became popular to record famous collections through lithography. The parts of this work were sold for 10 Gulden/Forint early on. Ref: IconClass 11F24 Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Johann Nepomuk Strixner' after 'Jan van Eyck'. Johann Nepomuk Strixner (German 1782-1855), was one of the earliest lithographers. Educated in drawing and engraving he became a student in the workshop of the inventor of Lithography (invented c. 1796) Alois Senefelder and participated in the early experimenting and projects. Ritson, Joseph, ed.
William Pickering; York: J. & G. Todd, 1832. The earliest scholarly effort towards compiling and analyzing the surviving historical Robin Hood ballads, along with a carefully constructed argument regarding the identity of the "real" man behind the myth. This second, enlarged edition was the first published by Pickering, with the printing done by Charles Whittingham, and it showcases => Bewick's original wood-engravings from the 1795 first edition. The advertisement here notes that Ritson, following the original publication, "continued . . . to make additions to his own copy, from which the present edition has been carefully printed" -- and also claims that "from the improved art of wood-cut-printing," the Bewick illustrations are actually clearer and more beautiful here than they were in the first edition. Tunes for "Robin Hood and the Tanner," "Robin Hood and the Bishop of Hereford," "A Freeman's Song," a round that begins "Robin Hood, Robin Hood," and "Robin Hoods Delight" are supplied, along with a glossary of archaic vocabulary. Binding: Signed binding done by => Francis Bedford, stamped as such in turn-ins on front pastedowns and on front free endpapers: 19th-century calf framed in triple gilt fillets with small corner rondels, spines gilt extra with gilt-stamped red leather title-labels and green leather volume labels, board edges with double gilt fillets, turn-ins with gilt roll. All edges gilt. Provenance: From the library of American collector Albert A. Howard, small booklabel ("AHA") at rear of each volume.
