In folio (35x23.5 cm) with [30], 443 pp. Binding: contemporary full calf, with raised bands and gilt tools on spine and reb label with gilt title: Merino Escvela Paleogr[aphic].         TRAVELS IN INDIA,

      - DURING THE YEARS 1780, 1881, 1782, & 1783. BY WILLIAM HODGES, R. A. LONDON: PRINTED FOR THE AUTHOR, AND SOLD BY J. EDWARDS, PALL-MALL. MDCCXCIII. A view of the great pagoda at Tangore 2 - A view of calcuta taken from Fort William 3 - The pass of Sicri Gully from Bengal entering the province of Bahar. 4 . A view of the inside of a Zananah [Harem] 5 - Banyan Tree [Ficus Reliogiosus] 6 - Mahomedan women attending the tombs of their parents, relatives, or friends at night. 7 - Peasent woman + Asepoy matchlock man. 8 - A columbn taken from the temple of Vis Visha at Benares 9 - Procession of a hindu woman to the Funeral Pile 10 - A view of Bidjegur 11 - A view of the Palace of Nabob Asoph ul Dowlah at Lucknow 12 - A view of Agra taken from the South West 13 - A woman of Hindostan + Mullah or Musselman Priest 14 - A view of the Fort of Gwalior Este livro de viagens é o resultado de uma recolha efectuada durante 6 anos (1778-1783) na Índia.

A Collection of early portraits of Capt. James Cook and representations of the famous "Death of Cook"

Very good overall. The collection of 37 images has been assembled over the last 30 years. It has, at its' nucleus, an early 19th century collection of 10 portraits assembled by Sam'l Cousins, R.A. There are 25 portraits, eight "Death of Cook" images, four images of medals or eulogies with Cook's portrait. The engravings range from 1780-1880 with the majority being in the late 18th century. They include copper, stipple, steel and wood engravings & lithographs, dating from 1780 to 1879. On the verso of one portrait is the pencil inscription "Capt. Cooke (sic) the famous Navigator. 10 separate plates with the great Portrait by Dance. This collection was made by Sam'l Cousins R.A. and cannot now be duplicated." Samuel Cousins appears in Beddie 4269-70 & 4166-69 as the engraver of Bank's portraits from 1822-28. We believe the author of the penciled comment is Colonel Fuller, a noted UK collector of portraits. [NB The portraits are listed by sculptor, as they are referenced in Beddie, "Bibliography of Capt.

Paris: L. Cellot, & Jombert fils jeune, 1780 First edition. 8vo (19,5 x 11,8 cm). xxviii, (2), 340 pp. Contemporary full calf. gilt-tooled spine with 5 raised bands, 5 gilt fleurons and a gilt-lettered red morocco label. Marbled endpapers and edges. Gilt-decorated board edges. Illustrated with 7 folding copper-engraved plates and 1 folding table. Rare early French work on a wide range of recreational fireworks. This work on pyrotechny is written in the form of 26 dialogues between the young Count of L(alaing) and his instructor , the "amateur" G(rignon). The work is divided into 4 parts and covers all aspects of preparing and producing fireworks and the different apparatuses to be used with them: fusées volantes, gerbes de feu, chandelles romaines, courantins, pots-à-feux, bombes and ballons, illuminations, galeries de feu, fontaines, soleils tournans &c. The text is accompanied by 7 folding copper-engraved plates with over 100 instructive figures. The explanation of these figures is supplied on pp. 330-339. With an index of the different dialogues. Very good antiquarian condition. Only the paper of the folding table, giving the composition and the dimensions of different fireworks, shows paper-related browning and furthermore a scratch on the front cover. But otherwise a complete, fresh, well-bound and well-kept copy with strong impressions of the plate-figures. For a full description and more images please visit www.zaalbooks.nl .

*-------* Large wood engraved sheet, stencil-colored, from Orleans, the most important eighteenth century center for popular imagery. The Palais-Royal was then a high spot of pleasure in Paris. All these images are very rare today. . [380 x 320 mm] Collation :.

Hij schreef talrijke verhandelingen over globes en wetenschappelijke instrumenten, waaronder de ?Treatise describing and explaining the construction and use of new celestial and terrestrial globes?, gepubliceerd in Londen in 1766. Prijs: ?16.500,-.

Follows the “Ordenanza de primero de Julio de 1779. Prescribiendo las Reglas con que se ha de hacer El Corso de particulares contra enemigos de la Corona” (1779), which regulated piracy and filibuster activities, from the Spanish Crown, for the American and Asian overseas territories. The articles explain in detail what to do with captured vessels, even neutral, when travelling to Algeciras and Tarifa, and what to do with the cargo. Rare, we could trace no copies having sold at auction, nor could we trace any copies held institutionally. Not in Palau. [Attributes: First Edition]
