First issue of the sole edition, with "Post Est" rather than the correct "Potest" engraved around the Caesar medal (vol. 2, p.108). 2 vols., 8vo., pp., (xxxii), 176, [ii], 177-264, [ii]; [xxiv], 48, [ii], 49-94, [ii], 95-152, [ii], 153-172, [ii], 173-191, (xvi). With multiple lists of subscribers to each volume, but without the printed list of antiquities found in one of the three Rothschild copies. Entirely engraved by John Pine, with frontispieces, title vignettes, 8 full-page illustrations, culs-de-lampe,and 4-line opening initial to each poem. Vol.I has a small intermittent stain to the lower margin near the gutter, a handful of upper corners creased, occasional light foxing. Contemporary dark brown calf, gilt spines with red and green title labels (the green possibly replaced or sympathetically retooled), all edges red. Spines rubbed with tail of vol.II quite worn, joints neatly repaired, a few scuffs, endpapers a little toned, a very good copy.

Group of six original manuscript documents issued by the renowned English book antiquarian of London Bond-Street, James Robson (1733-1806), famous for undertaking in 1788 a voyage to Venice to purchase the Pinelli Library, sold at auction in London as the Biblioteca Pinelliana. The present set comprises six items, namely three Book bills issued 1795, 1802 and 1804 to Rev. Luttrell Wynne (the heir of Edward Wynne's Library consigned to Leigh & Sotheby, sold during 1786), and corresponding receipts issued at posterior dates. Two bills measure when unfolded about 17 x 40 cm. The third 32 x 20 cm. The receipts measure each about 8 x 20 cm. They are in very good overall condition despite minor marginal tears, some browning and soiling, other minor defects. Please see images.

Très belle impression anversoise, sur grand papier, de ce fameux livre d'emblèmes, par le peintre flamand Otto van Veen (1557-1629). Le "Theatro Moral de la Vida Humana" est une oeuvre chorale qui s'articule autour de l'ouvrage "Quinti Horati Flacci Emblemata" (1607), recueil de planches gravées par van Veen pour illustrer des fragments d'Horace choisis par ses soins. L'oeuvre originelle fut enrichie de traductions de notices du français Martin le Roy de Gomberville, ainsi que du "Tableau" de Cébès de Thèbes et du "Manuel" d'Epictète.
