The captain-general of the expedition was José Carrillo de Albornoz, first Duke of Montemar, who had fought in the War of the Spanish Succession and the War of the Quadruple Alliance; at this time he was viceroy of Sicily. Facing p. 20 is the plan of battle for the Spanish forces. The map on the verso shows the harbour at Oran, the town, and half a dozen fortresses surrounding it, as well as the position of the Spanish navy during the battle. The final leaf has the legend for the map on its recto, with the verso blank. Freire de Monterroyo Mascarenhas explains in the dedication that he compiled this account from many shorter accounts, because the public was eager to learn about the r … [Click Below for Full Description]

[vi]+350pp, engraved devices on tp & after the last page of text, headpieces, old worm holes in the bottom margin throughout which very occasionally reach the printed text but with the meaning clear, hinges cracked, and spine ends rubbed. ESTCT 85806. A collected edition of three works attacking what Edmund Gibson [ 1669 - 1748 ] Bishop of London, saw as a rise in 'Profaneness and Impiety' in the people of London. Gibson believed this was caused by an increase in books which attacked Christianity, so his answer was to write three letters to the people of London, containing 'Rules and Cautions' designed to strengthen the faith of 'sincere and unprejudic'd Christians' and to preserve them 'from these dangerous Infections'. Individually they were published in large amounts ( a total of 74000 copies of the first 3 were printed ) but this collected edition had a print run of just 3000 copies.

LUYKEN, Jean.
Amsterdam, chez Jean Covens and Corneille Mortier, 1732. 2 parti in un vol. in-folio, pp. (8), 78; (2), 44 (ma in effetti 46) e 15 ff. (num.

[Attributes: Hard Cover]

DU FAIL, Noël, seigneur de La Hérissaye;
