SEUTTER MATTEUS
Incisione in rame, coloritura originale d'epoca, mm 500x595; in basso a sinistra bella scena di genere; in alto a destra quattro riquadri raffiguranti Porto Bello, Cuba, Carthagena e Vera Cruz. Copperplate, original colour, mm 500x595. Enriched by four little inset maps of Porto Bello, Cuba, Carthagena e Vera Cruz and a sea battle. From Seutter's Atlas Maior printed in about 1730. Seutter, one of the most celebrated eighteenth century German mapmakers, after having worked with Homann in Nuremberg, started his own business in Augsburg around 1710. His maps always have elaborate cartouches and are very decorative and printed on good paper.

Bruin, Claas
Geb. in geheel leer; (18)+502+(8) p., ill. Goed exemplaar. Achtereenvolgens worden bezocht: Nieuwendam, Ransdorp, Schellingwoude, Durgerdam, Buiksloot, Waterland, Landsmeer, Zunderdorp, Uitdam, Holisloot, Ilpendam, Zuiderwoude, Broek, Monnickendam, Marken, Edam, Purmer(end), De Rijp, Graft(dijk), Knollendam, Jisp, Wormer(veer), Zaandijk, Koog aan de Zaan, Oostzaan, Zaandam, Westzaan, Assendelft, Krommenie, Akersloot, Schermer, Beemster, Kwadijk, Middelie, Oosthuizen, Warder, Beets, Schardam, Grosthuizen, Scharwou, Avenhorn, Mysen, Berkhout, Opdam, Hensbroek, Ursem, Spanbroek, Woggenum, Hoorn, Westerblokker, Oosterblokker, Zwaag, Schellinkhout, Leek, Westwoud, Hem, Hoogkarspel, Venhuizen, Lutjebroek, Grotebroek, Bovenkarspel, Enkhuizen, Andijk, Wervershoof, Zwaagdijk, Hauwert, Benningbroek, Nibbixwoude,Midwoude, Oostwoud, Medemblik, Opperdoes, Twisk, Abbekerk, Lambertschaag, Opmeer,Sybekarspel, Hoogwoud, Winkel, Haringhuizen, Barsingerhorn, Wieringerwaard, Wieringen, Zij … [Click Below for Full Description]

Milton, John; Jacobus van Zanten (vert.)
4º: * 4 A-3N 4, gepag.:[8] 472 pp. Titelpagina in zwart en rood gedrukt. Contemp. half perkament, rug boven- en onderaan beschadigd. Scherpbier, Milton in Holland. A study in the literary relations of England and Holland before 1730 (Amsterdam 1933); Smit (Kalliope) I, p.108, II, p.261-279; Moderne encyclopedie der wereldliteratuur (Hilversum 1967) V, p.484 - 490 De eerste Nederlandse vertaling van Miltons beroemde epos 'Paradise Lost', dat gaat over de zondeval van de eerste mensen (eerste druk 1667, tweede herziene uitgave 1674). W.A.P. [Click Below for Full Description]

MOLL, Herman (1654-1732)
H. Moll, D. Midwinter, T. Bowles, P. Overton, London 1730 - Copper-engraved map, on four joined sheets, with original outline colour. Marginal foxing, re-margined left and right margins, reinforced center fold, repaired tear bottom margin, toning at center fold. A magnificent and monumental World map, showing the globe in the early days of the Age of Enlightenment and European Imperialism This fascinating global perspective, featured in double-hemispheres, depicts the latest state of knowledge of the world in the first quarter of the eighteenth-century. The delineation of Europe, South America, and southern Asia is quite sophisticated, while the depiction of regions further beyond suggests only fleeting exploration or outright speculation. Most of the Arctic is labelled "Parts Unknown," and the American West is largely conjectural, featuring California as an island, the most beloved of cartographic misconceptions. Lands depicted to the east of the Spice Islands are scarcely contemplated, "Iesso," or Hokkaido, is shown to be part of Siberia, and eastern Australia is left as a complete enigma, decades before the voyages of James Cook. This map was intended to satiate the intense English interest in maritime exploration and commerce. The oceans within the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn feature highly detailed hydrological information, most notably the direction of the ocean currents, that Moll gleaned from his esteemed contemporary Sir Edmond Halley. Evincing the scientific curiosity of the Enlightenment, each corner of the map features very detailed and elegant astronomical … [Click Below for Full Description]

Good condition with a restored marginal area in upper left corner, some surface dirt and light water stains.
