SAMUEL ADAMS
SAMUEL ADAMS (1722-1803). Adams was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Massachusetts. He was the leading spokesman for American independence, giving many speeches and serving on many committees. He vehemently opposed the Stamp Act, the Sugar Act, and British colonial policy in general, and was one of the organizers of the Boston Tea Party. His constant criticism of the British contributed to the tensions which lead to 1770’s Boston Massacre. He served as Massachusetts Governor from 1793 to 1797. DS. 1pg. 7 ¾” x 10”. March 1, 1796. Boston. A partly printed pay warrant signed “S Adams” as Governor and co-signed “John Avery” as Secretary. Adams ordered that “His Excellency Samuel Adams, Esqr Governor & Commander In Chief the Sum of Six hundred fifty six Dollars 66 cents 8 mills in full for one quarters service ending the ds instant agreeably to establishment for which this shall be your sufficient Warrant…”. It is directed to Thomas Davis, the state Treasurer. The Adams autograph is dark and sloping upwards. The item is attractively matted in dark gray and framed to an overall size of 14 ½” x 16 ½”.

EUSTACHIO BARTOLOMEO.
Author not named
Amsterdam: Etienne Roger ( Estienne ), 1722. full calf with some mild wear, five raised bands on spine, restrained gilt decoration on spine, red label with title present but label presumably showing volume number is missing, text is clean and tight throughout, complete with engraved frontispiece, vignette on title page and twenty four fold-out maps at rear, 527 pages of text, plus publisher's catalogue and the maps. Third and final volume of this edition. The author is not stated, but Jean de la Barre is attributed with writing part of it. However he is thought to have died around 1711, and I can find no detail on who might have brought it up to 1721 - perhaps Roger himself? There is a neat ink signature on the title page next to the vignette, 'J. De Virasel' which may refer to the writer. There is an armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Odd volume. First Edition. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Vander Aa Pierre edit.
Piega editoriale. Ottima conservazione
