Sir Francis Bacon
London: J.Walthoe et al, 1718. With a table of the colours of Good and Evil and a discourse of the Wisdom of the Ancients. To which is added The Character of Queen Elizabeth. x, 167pp. vi, 21pp. x, 102pp. Armorial book plate and ownership signature of Nicholas Pearson, 1720. Ownership signature of Joseph Bromehead 1782. There is a long inscription in his hand to the end paper which reads "These Essays alone are sufficient to immortalize the Name of Bacon. They have many profound observations, many beautiful Turns of Wit, & even of language & are upon the whole an incomparable performance. One would think the Discourses on the Wisdom of the Ancients was added merely as a Foil to set off the Essays to more advantage. It is miserably translated by Sr.F Gorges. Robinson, [John].
1718. (4), 123, (2), 125-169, (1) SS. 8vo. Zweite französische Ausgabe von Robinsons ursprünglich anonymer Schrift "Account of Sueden, together with an Extract of the History of that Kingdom" (1694). [Click Below for Full Description]
