Joseph Assemani was one of the Lebanese scholars who studied in Rome, and who had a profound impact on the field of Oriental studies in Europe in the 18th century. Assemani was appointed Prefect, devoting most of his life carrying out an extensive plan for editing and publishing the most valuable Syraic, Arabic, Ethiopic, Armenian, Persian, Hebrew and Greek manuscripts kept in … [Click Below for Full Description]

[Click Below for Full Description]

Daniel Defoe
London: W. Taylor at the Ship, 1719. My condition description is longer than the characters ebay allows in this text entry box. Please see the description of the item for a detailed discussion of the condition. Also, review the pictures. Thank you! 1719, third edition Robinson Crusoe, accompanied by a third edition (1722) of the sequel, Farther Adventures. Both are very early, and printed by the 1st edition printer, Taylor (ironically, at The Sign of the Ship in London). They were recently bound-to-match and are ready for many centuries more. The Robinson Crusoe is a very early printing. The 1st edition of Robinson Crusoe was released on April 25th, 1719, followed quickly by the second edition on May 9th, and the third on June 4th. Both of these books lack their frontis, but they are supplied in facsimile, printed on high quality acid-free paper laid paper, from high resolution scans of the first editions. Full titles: 1719, The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner... 1722, The Farther Adventures of Robinson Crusoe; Being the Second and Last Part of His Life... During the printing of the third editions, a small change was made for each. Both of these books are from the second state: Robinson has a Phoenix as its tailpiece, and Farther has the updated page fourteen ("shore" was used abundantly and during the third edition printing page fourteen was edited to reduce the use of "shore").
