BENEDETTO MARCELLO
In Venezia, Appresso Gio. Gabriello Hertz, 1718. PRIMA edizione. In 12mo (cm. 14); cartonato coevo; pp. (6), C, (6). Bellissima copia in barbe. Axs

D'ANDREA, Francesco
Napoli, 1718. [Click Below for Full Description]

Francesco GRISELINI (1717 – 1787) Vienna: Augustinus Cipps ca 1778 (1780). Copper engraving (cleaned and mounted on thick paper, restored tiny holes on the crossings of the folds, folds slightly dusty, otherwise in a good condition), 56 _ 62 cm.
Large finely engraved map shows the historical province the Banat of Temeswar in today’s Romania, south Hungary and north east Serbia. It embraces the area between Segedin in Hungary and the Mures River on the North and Danube on the South with Belgrade on the left-hand side. The view in the lower part shows the capital Timisoara (Temeswar). The map was made by a Venetian cartographer Francesco Griselini in the time of Banat of Temeswar as a Habsburg province that existed between 1718 and 1778. After the Treaty of Passarowitz (1718) the Habsburg Empire got the Banat from the Ottomans. They started populating the vacant towns and villages and rebuilding the infrastructure. The maps shows new constructions such as the Bega canal – a canal constructed from 1720 on and enlarged in 1759, in order to dry the swamps west of Timisoara and effect navigation between Danube and the Black sea. It also shows the new city Aradul Nou. After the city was abandoned at the beginning of the 18th century it was populated by German immigrants in from 1720 on. Another wave of immigrants from Hessia, Schwarzwald and Württemberg came from 1764, so in the time of Griselini’s staying in the Banat of Temeswar. Francesco Griselini (1717 in St. Fantino by Venice – 1787 Milan, Italy) was an Italian scientist, traveller, historian, polymath and author. After a short study of theology in Venice he got married and dedicated his further years to history and natural science. In 1770 he met a county council of the Banat Josef Brigido von Bresowitz and his brother Pompejus, who invited him to visit the county. … [Click Below for Full Description]

This antique print, captioned: 'Femme Samoiede / Homme Samoiede / 8' shows a male and female of the Samoyed people in winter furs. The man has a bow and arrows at his feet. The term Samoyedic peoples is used to describe peoples speaking Samoyedic languages, which are part of the Uralic family. They are a linguistic grouping, not an ethnic or cultural one. The name derives from the obsolete term Samoyed used in Russia for some indigenous peoples of Siberia. Copperplate engraving on a verge type paper. Description: This scarse plate originates from: 'Voyages de Corneille le Brun par la Moscovie, en Perse et aux Indes Orientales .', by Corneille le Brun (Cornelis de Bruyn), published by Les Freres Wetstein, Amsterdam, 1718. First edition in French, first published in Dutch in 1711 ('Reizen over Moskovie, door Persie en Indie .').Artists and Engravers: Cornelis de Bruijn (also spelled Cornelius de Bruyn, (1652 1726/7) was a Dutch artist and traveler. He made two large tours and published illustrated books with his observations of people, buildings, plants and animals. This is the account of De Bruyn's second voyage. He left The Netherlands in 1701 and sailed to Archangel and on to Moscow, where he lived for more than a year. In 1703 he reached Persia, and after nearly another year in Isfahan, he continued to Persepolis, the ancient Achaemenid palace. His drawings of these ruins were a disappointment to his public as they differed from those they had already become familiar with. By 1705 De Bruyn was in the Dutch Indies, and gives good account of Batavia, Brabant, Bantam, wh … [Click Below for Full Description]

LONGUS;
Cohen, Manuel de l'amateur de livres à gravures du XVIIIe siècle, 648-651 - Gordon N. Ray, The Art of the French Illustrated Book 1700 to 1914, 2. … [Click Below for Full Description]
