Vanière instructs on the art of gardening while inspiring, in picturesque verse, a love of weather and landscape, the grape harvest, winemaking, hunting and fishing, orchards and vegetable gardens, and bees. His poems were highly esteemed, with editions of Praedium Rusticum issued for more than a hundred years, until 1829. The 1707 edition contains ten books, but the poem would ultimately comprise sixteen, in the second edition of 1730. Edition originale rare. Hecquet fit imprimer cet ouvrage à Chambéry et anonymement, n'ayant pas eu la permission de le faire imprimer à Paris. Notre exemplaire est bien complet, comportant les 3 textes à pagination séparée, avec l'errata figurant entre la préface et l'avertissement. On y trouve successivement : -1°). La thèse de l'auteur sur la saignée soutenue en 1695. Hecquet affirme que "la saignée est de tous les remèdes celui qui supplée le mieux au défaut de la transpiration" ; - 2°). L'extrait du Journal des journalistes de Paris et la réponse de Hecquet à ce journaliste qui raillait la saignée : Hecquet s'appuie notamment sur les ouvrages de Sanctorius et de Lower, et ébauche sa théorie iatrophysique, ayant recours à la physique et aux lois de la mécanique pour expliquer la physiologie cardio-vasculaire, l'équilibre des fluides et les effets de la saignée ; - 3°). Un mémoire sur la boisson : " il ne faut pas défendre la boisson aux malades". Philippe Hecquet (1661-1737), reçu docteur en médecine à Reims, fut élu doyen de la Faculté de médecine de Paris. (dedica, presentazione ed indice) + 24 tavole incise in rame, ciascuna accompagnata da una carta di presentazione elegantemente incorniciata e con il testo al verso. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle con punte, dorso a piccoli nervi con titoli e fregi in oro. Esemplare genuino e ben conservato, stampato su carta forte con coloritura coeva in tonalità di verde delle zone d'acqua. Si tratta della non comune edizione originale di quest'opera che illustra lo stato della Milano spagnola. Le tavole raffigurano: Carta dello Stato di Milano, pianta di Milano, del suo Castello, di Pavia, Tortona, Serravalle, Alessandria, Valenza, Mortara, Novara, Arona, Domodossola, Como, Lecco, Trezzo, Forte di Fontes, Vigevano, Bobbio, Lodi, Pizzichettone, Cremona, Sabbioneta, Marina di Finale e Govone.
