Publisher not stated 1705 - pp. [2], 257, [2 contents]. 8vo contemporary full leather with five raised bands and red label on spine; 'Birmingham Law Society' (BLS) stamped in gilt on front, while rear cover also has stamped in gilt their ornate monogram. BLS bookplate and small circular label to front paste-down VERY GOOD condition. Binding is secure and still has a lot of sheen, and text block firm with age-dulled edges, but clean, crease-free leaves. Foxing confined to end-papers, and circular stamp of BLS appears on title page, p1, and p1 of contents at rear. Binding also worn and bumped at extremities, and whilst front board is secure, outer front hinge is split. A neat and sympathetic repair to outer rear hinge, and glued paper reinforcement to corresponding inner hinge. No inscriptions or annotations apart from a contemporary looking Inked entry (Sir John Hawles. 45) to P1 of contents. A wonderful copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

With an inset depicting the Bay of Maldonado. Engraving / etching with hand colouring on hand laid paper. Description: Source unknown, to be determined.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Isaak Tirion' after an anonymous artist. Isaak Tirion, a Dutch publisher in Amsterdam, was born 1705. He produced serveral Atlases and Dutch town plans. The maps mainly based on those of Guillaume de l'Isle. He died in 1765. Tirion was born in Utrecht in 1705. He moved to Amsterdam in 1725 and set up shop on Damrak as a book publisher. Tirion quick rose in prominence by publishing pamphlets, historical works, and, most importantly, maps and atlases. He eventually relocated his printing house to the prestigious Kalverstraat. In his long career he produced eight atlases in multiple editions, some of which were published posthumously until about 1784. Most of his cartographic work is based on the earlier maps of Guillaume de L'Isle. Condition: Good, given age. A few tiny unobtrusive spots. Original folds as issued. Magnifica edizione celebrativa della famiglia fiorentina Gondi illustrata da 2 antiporte allegoriche in rame (inc. da Mariette) e complessivi 29 ritratti f.t., 6 alberi genealogici, di cui 5 ripieg. f.t., 47 vedute f.t. di luoghi e monumenti, numerosissime vignette, stemmi e blasoni in legno n.t. Al tomo I sono inseriti 9 ritratti a figura intera. Le 27 tavole di vedute, prospetti sezioni e piante (incise principalmente da Mariette e Hovatt) sono particolarmente interessanti poichè rappresentano tombe di membri del casato, torri e logge di palazzi appartenuti ai Gondi e ben 9 tavole riguardano la Chiesa di Santa Maria Novella in Firenze, 5 quella di S. Martino di Valcava al Mugello. Il II tomo è ccorredato da 20 ritratti, di cui 7 muliebri + 20 tavole di genere vario incise principalmente da Mariette. I Gondi, antica famiglia nobile fiorentina, di cui si ha notizia fin dal 1197, furono commercianti, banchieri ed agricoltori. Il secondo tomo si occupa del ramo francese dai tempi di Caterina de' Medici. Legature con qualche segno d'uso, spellature agli angoli dei piatti, vecchi residui di nastro adesivo ad un albero genealogico al tomo II, piccola mancanza al marg. inf. di una tavola al I vol. Trevligt lätt nött hfrbd från 1700-talets mitt med upphöjda bind, svartlinjerad rygg och beige titeletikett i glättad papp. Röd- och blåstänkta snitt. Enstaka spridda fläckar. En stor fuktrand börjar på titelbladet och fortsätter sedan i skiftande styrka fram till s. 25. Några små rostfläckar på s. 129-36 och ett rosthål på s. 147-48 med bokstavsförlust. Liten fuktrand i övre hörnet på s. 169-76. Från s. 241 tilltagande fuktrand först i nedre och sedan i övre hörnet, och de sista fyra sidorna med starkt fläckade hörn. Trots fläckarna ett trevligt ex. från Trolleholm och ur Tommy Hellmans bibliotek. Detta är det äldsta och noggrannaste svenska verket i ämnet före 1794. Den tekniska inriktningen syns inte minst på de trevliga planscherna där kanonerna och dess manskap avbildas i detalj.

Der zweite Teil mit dem Titel: Das Ander Buch von der Kunst der Metallen. - Das in einigen Bibliographien angegebene Erscheinungsjahr von 1670 für den ersten Teil beruht auf einem Lese- bzw. Übertragungsfehler. - Der spanische Priester Barba wurde 1588 nach Peru geschickt und studierte u.a. in den Silberminen von Potosi den dortigen Bergbau und das Hüttenwesen. Sein 1640 erschienener Bericht "El arte de los metales" behandelt das Vorkommen der Metalle und Erze besonders von Gold und Silber, deren Abbau, Aufbereitung und Verhüttung. Er führt die warme Amalgamierung der Silbererze ein, erfindet den Aludelofen zur Destillation des Quecksilbers und empfiehlt erstmals die Anwendung von Flammöfen zum Rösten und Schmelzen von Bleierzen. Antique print, titled: 'Maestricht, ville forte aux Hollandois [ ].' - This print shows the fortified city of Maastricht in the province Limburg in The Netherlands. This plan originates from: 'Les Forces de l'Europe', by Nicholas de Fer, published in Paris, 1705. Engraving and etching on hand laid paper. Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Nicholas de Fer'. Nicholas de Fer (1646-1720) was the youngest son of Parisian print and map seller, Antoine de Fer [d.1673]. He became an official geographer to both French and Spanish kings. Nicholas de Fer was one of the most prolific and influential French geographers and cartographers of the late 17th and early 18th Century. Very good, given age. Two small stains in print. Binding holes in the left margin, not affecting image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 37.9 x 27.6 cm. London: Jacob Tonson, 1705 An early account of a Gentleman's travels through Italy and Switzerland with a fulsome four page dedication to John Lord Sommers, Earl of Evesham who was then Lord High Chancellor of England. First edition with P. 125 misprinted as P.225. 533 pp.Text is clean and intact. Several copper engravings in text of coins and medals, and Evesham's coat-of-arms in the dedication. Previous owner's name on flyleaf. Original brown leather boards of are spotted and bumped at corners. Edges and spine have are heavily rubbed. Spine is cracked but holding at hinges front and back and about 1/3 of the leather spine is missing. Appears to have had some gold stamping on spine and board edges, now just a shadow. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition. Full-Leather. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
