VALLEMONT (Pierre Le Lorrain abbé de);
A Paris chez Jean Anisson 1693 In-12 de (30)-609-(1) pp., vélin, pièce de titre (reliure du XIXe siècle). Edition originale rare.

Brixton Hill: "Printed for Private Circulation only" [by T. Richards], 1852. One of 80 copies printed on thick paper and intended for private circulation. In the preface, Halliwell writes: "Our public libraries and museums are remarkably deficient in the department of Shakespearean curiosities?no one yet seems to have considered it worth while to have completed a series of authentic materials in illustration of his life and writings?there are yet recorded in the following pages a sufficient number of important illustrative objects to render the whole well deserving the attention of every Shakespearean student." The contents of the present work, which describes 120 items, was sold en bloc to Lord Warwick, and now resides in the Folger Shakespeare Library. The catalogue describes all kinds of artifacts from Shakespeare's time, including rare books and manuscripts, knives, seals, coins, charters, pamphlets, drawings, a flask, etc. Halliwell devotes long descriptions to several items of great interest such as an original manuscript containing … [Click Below for Full Description]

ESTIENNE, Charles.
Genevae, apud Samuelem de Tournes., 1693.. Reissue of the new edition which incorporated the innumerable additions and emendations made over a period of thirty years by Nicholas Lloyd of Wadham College, Oxford. Quarto. pp [xii], 1059. Title page printed in red and black. Contemporary binding of full tree calf with gilt decoration, marbled endpapers. The first French encyclopaedia, originally printed and published in Paris by Estienne in 1553.From the library of Dutch theologian Johannes Henricus Scholten (1811-1885): tipped in before the title-page is a leaf printed with a prize announcement of the Latin School at Delft with Scholten's name inserted by hand, signed by the Rector A.W. Geers and four other teachers. The binding resembles others made for the school at around this time, as on the front and rear covers is the gilt coat of arms of the city of Delft.Some light foxing here and there. A bit of wear to edges of covers. Very good indeed.

Cfr. Piantanida, Aut.
