First edition of an exceedingly rare Spanish imprint on Peruvian native's census. Castillo served for 24 years in Peru in both civil and military positions; he last worked as an accountant for the tributes paid by the natives. Spanish imprints on Peruvian native's census´ are not common. At the end, Fernandez de Madrigal a member of the Consejo de su Magestad and a Major in the War Council for the Indies and Peru, certifies that Castillo gave a report on the General Numeration of the Indians of such Provinces, and for the reintegration of the Mita of the minerals from Guancabelica and Potosi. A most rare imprint, of which we find no copy anywhere; only a "Copia de un informe, que hizo al... Conde de la Moncloa... Don Pedro Antonio del Castillo y San Juan, Contador que fue de retassas y tributos de aquel Reyno", published in 1689 is found at a Spanish institution.

> Minieri Riccio, 185. Opera sconosciuta al Piantanida. Codice libreria 141932.

Bible. English. Selections. 1693.
Printed by F. Collins for T. Ilive, at the Nags-Head in Jewen-Street, 1693. John Taylor, The Water Poet (1580-1653), composed one of the first "thumb Bibles," a genre that began with John Weever's An Agnus Dei (London, 1601). Taylor's Verbum sempiternum, originally entitled Verbum sempiternae and later corrected to sempiternum, was first printed in 1614. That is a very rare edition: ESTC, WorldCat, and COPAC all locate the sole surviving copy at the University of Aberdeen. This edition is universally recorded as being the second, but there were editions in 1616, 1627, 1631, and 1670, all of which are held in three or fewer libraries, almost universally in Britain. Thus, this is really the earliest edition one can reasonably expect to find. The little work summarizes the Bible in verse form and was designed for children who were not old enough to read the Bible itself. The New Testament has a special title-page with the title "Salvator mundi"; the half-title at the beginning of the volume reads "Bible." => An essential work for the great collector or library of Bibles, children's, or miniature books. Binding: Contemporary black morocco richly gilt on covers and spine. Covers tooled with a center panel created by a flower vine roll; inner-corner devices of strawberries and outer corners with "hash-marked platter," other strawberries used at additional accents. Spine with two raised bands and three spine compartments, each created by a double gilt fillet on all four sides; three gilt circles within rules on each side, and a center gilt flower. [Click Below for Full Description]
