FONTAINE, Jean de la
Pierre Mortier, Libraire sur le Vygendam. 1693 Fables of Jean de Fontaine French Literature Aesop Poetry Phaedrus 2in1 Jean de la Fontaine was without question, the most widely read 17th-century fabulist, and perhaps could be rivaled only by Aesop himself. POZZO, Agostino dal
Venetiis: Typis Aloysii Pavini, 1693. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. 'Gnomonices Biformis' is a rare and highly important 17th-century study on gnomonics. Written by Agostino dal Pozzo, this treatise is an exhaustive study on the behavior of light, perspective, sundials, and solar clocks. Little is known of Pozzo; however, this work indicates that he extensively studied Euclid, Theodosius, and Apollonius of Perga. This work is filled with illustrations and charts - illustrating light rays, geometry examples, and astronomy figures. This 1693 edition is based on the original 1679 printing and is exceedingly rare. In fact, only one example of the 1679 is found for sale worldwide!

Vincenzo Maria CORONELLI (Ravenna 1650 - Venezia 1718)
1693. Tavola contenente nove raffigurazioni.
1693. Koeman, M.Mor. 5, map 1; not in Landwehr, Romeyn de Hooghe the etcher. Second(?) state of a beautifully engraved map of the coast of Holland, Flanders to Dieppe in Normandy and of south-west England. It was originally produced for the Atlas maritime, published in 1693/1694 for the King of England and Stadtholder of the Netherlands William III, which consisted of nine large charts, considered "the most spectacular type of maritime cartography ever produced in 17th century Amsterdam" (Koeman). It was designed, after English originals, and etched by the famous Dutch artist Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708), who was at the time in the service of king William III. Especially the views and cartouches show De Hooghe's great skill. The first state was published by Pierre Mortier and includes the year of publication "1693". The firm Covens & Mortier was established in 1721. Some faint foxing, a few wormholes restored in the centre fold, and a small clean tear in another fold, otherwise still in very good condition.

Upon his death in 1720, Nicolas was succeeded by two of his sons-in-law, Guillaume Danet and Jacques-François Danet and their heirs, who continued the de Fer publishing firm until c. 1760. . AUGUSTINE, of Hippo
Paris: Andrè Pralard, 1693. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. Augustine of Hippo was a 5th-century early Christian church philosopher and theologian. While most-known for his work 'City of God', he also wrote many other treatises on aspects of the Christian faith. His stance on free will vs predestination and fatalism was supported by and still is supported by, the Catholic Church, as his teachings on free will are consistent with modern doctrine. 'City of God' was a response to the assertions that the rise of Christianity was the cause of the decline of Rome. In this work, Augustine discusses the existence of God and evil, an all-knowing God, original sin, and Christian doctrines. Augustine sought to denounce much of the magic and pagan worship that was rampant throughout the known world.
