Rotterdam - Gregorio Leti (Frederick de Wit), 1690
ROTTERDAM OP HET HOOGTEPUNT VAN Z'N BLOEI 'Rotterdam', kopergravure uitgegeven in 1690 te Amsterdam door Gregorio Leti als onderdeel van diens Teatro Belgico. Later met de hand gekleurd. Afm. Duidelij … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bell'esemplare. Couple of joined copper engravings, each mm 450x630 (total size mm 895x630) engraved in the typical flamboyant Coronelli's style, colored by hand. Vincenzo CORONELLI (Venezia 1650 - 1718)
Elaborate map of the Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The map is rich in historical and etymological notes, but also notes of costume. Coronelli derived his information from that of Nolin, who had published a similar map in Paris ten years earlier. Curious is the inscription at the bottom center, on the subject of the seabed so-called Grand Banks of Newfoundland: in this area, from 15 April to the end of July, we held a real contest of the cod fishery, including those depths were rich, in order to obtain the codfish. Much attention is also in place names, often provided in both English and French. Other peculiarity, rather unusual for a map, is indication of depth of the seabed. The fish surrounding the cartouche are an obvious allusion to the main industry of the region. … [Click Below for Full Description]

Molto decorativa. Big map of the continent, in two imperial sheets, joined in the past. Coronelli returned to Venice in 1684 and founded the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti, a geographical society with membership drawn from the aristocracy and church hierarchy, and a year later he was appointed Cosmographer to the Republic of Venice. He also started a successful publishing career, and was sole author or contributor to over 140 titles and produced several hundred maps, either printed separately or as parts of atlases. 1690.
Duidelij … [Click Below for Full Description]

LETH, Hendrik de.
The Anglo-Dutch Garden 24 (ca. 1690 state of general view only); Springer, p. 45 (without the general view); Hollstein (Dutch & Flemish) XXVIII, B. Stoopendael 24 (ca. 1690 state of general view only); not in Berlin Kat. Very rare print series of the palace, gardens and other buildings of the Dutch royal estate Soestdijk, built mostly by Willem III, Prince of Orange, Dutch head of state and from 1689 also King of England. The estate passed to his son and then his grandson Willem Karel Hendrik Friso (1711-1751), Prince of Orange, who became the Dutch head of state in 1731 as Stadholder Willem IV. The large general view, with the city of Utrecht barely visible on the horizon, is rarely found with the series, but De Leth seems likely to have issued them together. Bastiaen Stoopendael (1637-1693) engraved and published the general view soon after Willem was crowned King William III of England in 1689. Hendrik de Leth (1703-1766) and his father Andries published views of Diemermeer by Stoopendael's son Daniel in 1725 and Hendrik seems likely to have added his name to the general view and published it together with the present numbered series soon after his father's death in 1731, perhaps for the occasion of Willem IV's appointment as Stadholder in that year. Well-printed with ample margins. The 16 views have been cut down, leaving a margin of about 2 mm, and mounted two to a leaf on 18th-century(?) unwatermarked laid paper. Very good copy of a very rare print series of King William III's Dutch royal palace and gardens.

STOBAEUS, Kilian.
First and only edition of a collection of 7 dissertations with Kilian Stobaeus (1690-1742) as praeses. Each had been published separately from 1731 to 1741 but they are now very rare. They are here posthumously reprinted under Stobaeuss name, without the names of the students. He is best remembered today as one of Linnaeuss tutors. The dissertations treat shells (1), historical monuments and manuscripts (2), dendrite crystals (3), thunderstones (4), historical artefacts and coins (5), coins and medals (6) and diluvial natural specimens (7), mostly found in Scandinavia. The two parts were reissued together in 1753 as Opera in quibus petrefactorum with new preliminaries and omitting the second title-page.With the bookplate of the geologist and archaeologist Paul Marie Cogels (1845-1912) and with some library stamps on the title-page. Endpapers and title-page foxed, and with some occasional spots, but otherwise in very good condition. Binding rubbed along the extremities and spine partly cracked, but still firm and otherwise good.BMC, p. 2023; Brunet V, col.

Getrukt zu Zürich : Bey David Gessner, 1690 (main title page); 1691 (Prophets, Apocrypha and NT title dates). --O0O-- A very rare and first edition of the pulpit Zurich- Luther Bible, four-parts -in-one, printed by David Gessner. This edition was the blueprint for many subsequent editions, and is very valuable with one other copy online priced at over 8,000$. The Bible is complete and retains all pages, although the downside is that the Bible lacks a binding and is disbound altogether. Pages are no longer bound and the Bible will need a complete new housing, the pages have some staining and wear at the margins, binding edge and some main edges; the main title with tears, wear and losses at the margins, as the same with the final leaf of Revelations at the end. All 4 title pages are present, however the copper engraved title page is not present. Massive folio, measures 16.5" tall, 11" wide, and 5.5" thick. A rare and important early German Bible with fantastic potential with a nice restoration. Good luck! [Attributes: First Edition]
