Pierre DUVAL (1619-1682).
Amsterdam: Justus Danckerts [circa ], 1690. Copper engraving with original colour in outline (Very Good, slightly age-toned, white margins slightly dusty and stained with small repaired tears, some pin-size holes in the white margins in the folds, in the upper right corner marked with a number), 46 x 52 cm (18.1 x 20.5 inches). This attractive map was produced during the era of the Great Turkish War (1683-1699), an epic contest between Turkey and the Austrian Habsburg Empire for domination of South Central Europe. In 1684, the region’s main Christian powers formed the Holy League, marking the first time that they had all joined forces to fight to Ottomans. The Turks were also caught off-guard by recent changes in European military tactics, as their massive armies had great difficulty contending the Austrians’ new and highly mobile artillery units. This quickly turned the tables, as the … [Click Below for Full Description]
