LA FAGE, Raymond de
Paris, Nicolas Langlois, (1684). ______ Format : Grand in-folio. [528 x 380 mm] Collation : titre gravé, frontispice, 10 planches gravées sur double page. Reliure : Demi-toile. *-------* One copy in USA at New York Public Library.

FOXE, John
London: for the Company of Stationers, 1684. 1684 Famous ed Foxe Book of Martyrs Acts & Monuments Illustrated MartyrologyThe best edition of Foxe's Book of Martyrs!"I am resolved to sacrifice everything in this transitory world, for the sake of salvation in a world that will last to eternity." ― John Foxe, Foxe's Book of MartyrsA beautiful printing of John Foxe's famous "Acts and Monuments". Foxe began working on this landmark work in 1552. While in exile, in 1554, the first examples of this book were published in Latin focusing on the religious persecution of Lollards in England during the 1400s. However, the rest of his book was written in response to more persecution occurring throughout England.'Printing and the Mind of Man' says of this work"Since its first English publication, for more than two centuries, it was one of the most widely read books in England... In 1571 a decree ordained that copies were to be placed in all cathedral churches and that the houses of archbishops, bishops, archdeacons and resident canons should all have copies for the use of servants and visitors."This 1684 edition is considered the best edition by Lowndes, much in part to the 22 impressive illustrations and the fact it was the final folio edition published.Item number: #8440Price: $950FOXE, JohnActs and monuments of matters most special and memorable, happening in the church: with an universal history of the same. Barclay, Robert.
1684. Erste deutsche Auflage. XVI Blatt, 450 Seiten, 12 Blatt. 21,5 x 18,5 cm. Blindgeprägter Ganzledereinband der Zeit. Bestoßen und berieben, unteres und oberes Kapitel leicht beschädigt. Innengelenk leicht gelockert, insgesamt von sehr guter Erhaltung. Kleiner Stempel auf Vortitel. Robert Barclay (* 23. Dezember 1648 in Gordonstown, Morayshire; ? 3. [Click Below for Full Description]

London, Richard Chiswell, 1684. First Thus. First Impression. Hardback. First edition translated by Gilbert Burnet (often quoted as preferable to Ralph Robinson's). One of the most important taproot texts for modern speculative fiction and a milestone in the genre's history. A lovely recent binding, marred by loss from every leaf that has been expertly repaired but still pretty obvious. A little spotted. A rare edition. Pagination: [24], 206. First leaf is a blank, followed by the title page and then the prologue. Our previous copy had to blanks before the title page, though the collation on this copy seems correct. Utopia is one of the most important works to have influenced the field of speculative fiction. In the 500 years since its publication, there have been hundreds of imitators, and the field would be a very different landscape without it. Bentley, and sold by Joseph Knight and Francis Saunders,, 1684. Quarto (222 x 175 mm). Eighteenth-century marbled wrappers, titled in early manuscript at head of front wrapper. Housed in a custom polished calf folding case and cloth chemise. Wrappers a bit worn and faded, paper spine defective, lower two cords (of four) gone; small work track to gutter of a few leaves, occasionally intruding into text, lower right corner of title torn away, but a nicely margined copy. CATULLE (Caius Valerius Catullus).
Isaacum Littleburii, 1684. Petit in-8 carré (192 x 147 mm), 2 ff. n. ch., 343 pp., 15 ff. n. ch. John Oldham
London: 1684. Item #4706 London: [n.p.], 1684. Pamphlet, probably an excerpt removed from a collection of works. Title page and first page loose. 20 pp. 12mo. (4 ¾ x 7 ½ in.) Moderate chipping at edges and corners, and foxing on back cover, as well as small open and closed tears. Notes from a previous bookseller on the front page. Primarily a reading copy. ANT352.John Oldham (b.1653 - d.1683) was a British poet and satirist well regarded in his day but now mostly forgotten by history, whose works challenged the politics, morals and manners of the Restoration. This scathing character study presents a priest so grotesque that he sleeps with his ears tied around the top of his head like a nightcap. The grandson of a famous anti-papist, and son of a Protestant preacher, Oldham turned his wit against many of his contemporaries-perhaps most avowedly against the Jesuit community. At a moment in history, and in English culture, when religion, politics, and print were in flux, Oldham was a key agent of change through his humor. He died at the age of 30 from smallpox the year before this work was published.

This work was first published in Florence in 1666. Richard Waller's translation of Saggi di naturali esperienze fatte nell'Accademia del Cimento (1667) was sponsored by the Royal Society of London. The Accademia, founded in Florence in 1657 (three years before the Royal Society), was established to perform experiments intended to advance the work of Galileo. It describes experiments on light, sound and electricity, all translated by Richard Waller. The book contains one of the first accounts of Toricelli's invention of the mercury barometer and its proper interpretation in terms of the weight of the atmosphere. The work includes descriptions of the first true thermometers and hygrometers, experiments on the velocity of sound, the expansion of water on freezing, and Toricelli's experiment on the barometer and air pressure – an important influence on Robert Boyle's New Experiments Physico-Mechanicall, Touching the Spring of Air. / The frontispiece carries special significance, wherein the Academy felt snubbed by the British Royal Society: "In 1668, when the Roya … [Click Below for Full Description]

Paris, 1684. . Large double-hemisphere map, 36 x 25 inches (framed: 38 x 26.5 inches). Attractively coloured, decorative cartouche and embellishments. Modest wear at fold, some light marginal stains, an attractive copy. This map has been mounted on cardboard via an unknown process, but there is no evidence of damage. This looks to be Shirley's state 4 of the first plate, with Cordier's name beneath the left hemisphere (Cordier Sculp.) and a date of 1684. The first plate exists in four states, dated 1674, 1679, 1681, and 1684 (this one). An enlarged version of a previous map by Nicolas Sanson, beautiful and striking. Wheat 65, citing the 1684 edition.

Girolamo ALBRIZZI
The map refers to the Venetian reconquest of the region, the Gulf of Prevesa, by the army led by Francesco Morosini. On September 29, 1684 Morosini, in his first campaign of the Morea, drew the Prevesa garrison towards the shore, a race to prevent troops landing from the galleys and galleys presented in front of the square; and in the meantime he actually had the bulk of the forces near the citadel, which after a few days was forced to surrender. With the Peace of Carlowitz (April 15, 1701) Prevesa returned to Turkey. Very rare work, of which we have not found traces in the bibliography. Etching, in excellent condition.

The work, with the lion of Venice clutching the Turkish, is a very rare broadsheet created to celebrate an event.
