Ivanovich Cristoforo
This is the First Edition of Minerva al Tavolino by Cristoforo Ivanovich, This is an important book and first publication about Opera and the first public experiment with a common audience in 1636. It contains also the chronology of the operas represented in Venice between 1637 and 1681. The condition is excellent and there are not any losing part in it. Has been done a little operation on the binding by a professional book restorer, who used just non-invasive technique. I want to underline that this is not a copy or a reprint, this is the original first edition. A brief treatise on the beginnings of Venetian opera, entitled Theatrical Memories of Venice, published in 1681 as the appendix to a larger volume entitled Minerva al tavolino (Minerva at the table) earned Cristoforo Ivanovich a place in the history of music. This contribution to the study of the earliest opera productions is all the more valuable if we consider his having been a part of it as a librettist with five titles put on stage not only in Venice, but also at the imperial theatre in Vienna. Unfortunately, the rest of his literary production - including dozens of letters, poems and essays gathered in the aforementioned Minerva al tavolino - has never been thoroughly investigated. Rare books. 2 volumes. Right. The Code of Roman Civil Law Amsterdam 1681 Elsevira. The item is limited, rare and suitable for your collection! Dear customer, look carefully at photos. The item is old enough and can not be returned. Corpus iuris civilis is the modern name of a set of Roman civil law, compiled in 529-534 under the Byzantine emperor Justinian the Great. Also known as "Justinian's Code" or "Justinian's Codification". Elsevier (Elsevier) - a family of Dutch printers, which occupied a leading, and sometimes dominant position in the European typography of the XVII century. On the Elzevier publishing stamps were depicted a globe, an eagle or a sage under a tree. The company was founded by a native of Leuven, Lodewijk Elsevier, who settled (not later than 1580) in Leiden after staying in Wesel and Douai. After his death in 1617, the family enterprise was headed by descendants - Bonaventure Elsevier (1583-1652), Isaac Elsevier (1596-1651), Lodewijk Elsevier Junior (1604-70). The last of the Elzevirs died in 1712, after which their firm closed. For a long time, Flavius Eutropius, dated 1592, was considered the first "Elzevir" (the so-called edition of this printing house). Currently known earlier Elsevirovskoe edition of 1583. As printers of Leiden University, the Elseviers published no less than 3,000 theses. Their editions of Latin texts were distinguished by their excellent design and comparative cheapness; a two-volume folio with Corpus iuris civilis (1663) is quite significant in this respect. In the second half of the 17th century, the book printing in Amsterd … [Click Below for Full Description]

1681. Two fine folding engraved plates. [9] leaves; 20 pp., one leaf of "Nota." Two parts in one vol. Small 4to, modern wrappers. Stuttgart: J.G. Zubrodt, [1681 (the date is given in an anagram)].First edition of this scarce observation of the famous comet of 1680-81; according to WorldCat, we find no copy in North America. Apart from its brightness, this comet is notable as the first to be observed using a telescope (by Gottfried Kirch in Coburg). Other well-known observers included Robert Hooke, Flamsteed, Newton, and John Evelyn.Zimmermann (1642-93), mathematician, astronomer, millenarian, and theologian, studied theology at the University of Tübingen and became a Lutheran minister at Bietigheim in Baden. A follower of Jakob Böhme, Zimmermann's millenarian views caused him to be removed from his ministry. He attracted like-minded dissenters and in 1693 a group of about 40 people, led by Zimmermann, left Hamburg for Pennsylvania. Zimmermann died en route, in Rotterdam. The remainder of the group established a religious community near the Wissahickon Creek.Zimmermann, in his varied life, was a professor of mathematics at Heidelberg. He wrote several notable and influential books on comets and was an active observer of the 1680-81 comet (noted by Kronk, see below, on p. 372). Newton mentioned Zimmerman in the first edition of the Principia as an observer of this comet. The first plate depicts the comet's path. The early chapters deal with the comet's movements through the heavens, and this is followed by a series of careful computations as to its exac … [Click Below for Full Description]

Lapponia, Norvegia Suecia, Dania, Polonia, Maximaeque partes Germaniae, Tartariae, Turcici Imperii, aliaeque Regiones adjacentes simul ostenduntur; de novo correcta et edita. Prijs: E … [Click Below for Full Description]

The beginning of the third chapter is dated X calendas Martii (20 February) 1681. - Vellum of upper cover repaired; a very well-preserved, well-legible specimen.
