William Drummond
London : The Fabian, 1681 A very good copy of this scarce historical work by William Drummond of Hawthornden. Drummond was a Scottish poet and it is said that this work emerged from his researches into his family history. In full leather binding with newer spine and probably contemporary boards. There is some repair to the frontispiece bottom gutter; loss of the bottom corner tip p419 with no impact on text; the occasional page corner crease; some light paper toning and the occasional light mark. A very good copy.

ROBERTSON, WILLIAM
Cambridge: John Hayes, printer to the University, 1681. First edition, thick 8vo, pp. [8], 1366, [1]; text in double columns; 20th century three-quarter tan calf over marbled boards, red gilt-lettered calf spine label; top half of textblock fore-edge ink stained, else very good and sound. Robertson, the Edinburgh lexicographer and professor of Hebrew at Cambridge, edited a version of the New Testament and compiled several dictionaries of Hebrew, Latin and Greek; his edition of Gouldman's Copious Dictionary (1674) is "the only real revision and augmentation" of the work. This collection of Latin phrases proved to be a valuable source for the later editors of Littleton's Latin Dictionary. The book showed rather amazing durability, and was reprinted as late as 1824 in London. Wing R1616; Vancil, p. 207.

Hickeringill, Edmund]
Printed for Francis Smith ., London, 1681. 59,[1]pp. plus preliminary blank. Folio. Extracted from nonce volume, with old ink foliation in upper fore-corners. Somewhat tanned and lightly foxed, otherwise about very good. First edition. This copy is in the regular form, rather than the variant with the inserted additional [4]pp. of "The book- seller to the reader. " This work by the prolific controversialist took "its name though not its theme from Bishop Herbert Croft's work [and] denounced all independent ecclesiastical jurisdiction. The church's power was defined by regnum, but its courts operated under the myth of a jus divinum: they were relics of popery. Hickeringill used his scholarly research into history and law to underpin a practicable assault on priestly authority. He taught, for example, that it was not 'sacrilege' for parishioners to withhold tithes." - DNB. ESTC R30784. WING H1821. [Attributes: First Edition]

[Click Below for Full Description]

Dux, Adolph, ungarisch-deutscher Dichter und Redakteur (1822-1881).
1681. 9 SS. 8vo.

Legatura coeva in pergamena. Titolo al dorso su tassello. Ottima e fresca copia.
