Macock for John Martyn, Henry Herringman, Richard Marriot (1679) Second collected edition. The Shakespearian attribution is generally agreed upon by scholars." ALSO with the ex-libris of the Duke of Bedford on the reverse of the title page dated 1703. 1679 The Holy Bible printed At the Theatre in Oxford Appears to be either Herbert #746, since this copy does not contain the Apocrypha, or another unknown printing of the 1679 Oxford English second printing (the first English printing being in 1675) Herbert states that "This is perhaps the earliest edition of the English Bible which has dates added in the margins. Job is dated 2400, and the Nativity 4000, years after the Creation." The Bible measures around 7.5" x 5.5" and is about 2" thick. There is an inscription on the top of the main title page that appears to read "J. Barker his book bought of M. Johnson June 1691 ..." some parts of the inscription are not legible to me. You can see the inscription in the pictures. I haven't found anything solid in the small amount of research that I've done on this name. It would be interesting to see if there was a connection to the Barker family that printed the first 1611 King James Bible. There is family history written on the back side of the New Testament title page as can be seen in the pictures. Some of the names include. Thomas Fiddian and Elizabeth Bowyer married at "Diddington" May 30th 1793 Elizabeth Fiddian Ann Elizabeth Fiddian William Fiddian There's another marriage for a Thomas Fiddian and Elizabeth Mason in 1832. There are others that can be seen in the pictures. Some other details about the Bible include: The rear cover is detached, the front cover is still attached well but should be handled carefully. Appears to be in the original binding with a good bit of wear to the covers, but the detail and decoration on the … [Click Below for Full Description]

(Voir Caillet, 2967. Dorbon, 1139. De Backer-Sommervogel, II, 1899-1900. Faber du Faur, 'German Baroque Literature in the Yale U.L.', n°1243. Yve-Plessis, 'Bibl. Sorcellerie', 1181). Page de titre renforcé sans perte. Accrocs de papier sans perte. Rousseurs et brunissures, parfois très soutenues. Cachets. Exemplaire bien complet.

University of Leuven 1679. Sprache: Lateinisch Bestell-Nr: 169503 Bemerkungen: Leder-Einband [212 x 164 mm] // Engraved title page with manuscript title, 484 ll. (including 5 blank). With 19 text drawings, 15 whole-page drawings and 10 (2 fold. and 1 with folding part) engraved plates. Very interesting and extensive manuscript lectures from the famous Old University of Leuven. Both professors of the present courses, Charneux and Melis, later became directors of the University. The writer Edmond Goossens came from Tirlemont in Belgium. The richly illustrated manuscript comprises lectures on Aristotelian physics, optics, astronomy and anatomy. The engraved plates were printed by Michael Hayé at Leuven and were exclusively sold to domiciled students, to paste them into their notebooks. There were two printers in Leuven who published those engravings for students, namely Michael Haye and Lambert Blendeff. Obviously, both printers diligently copied engravings from one another. Geert Vanpaemel lists 55 engravings, many of them were copied from Cartesian textbooks, of which 4 are enclosed in the present manuscript. For 6 of the plates Vanpaemel lists only Blendeff editions. Whilst all engravings within the present manuscript were printed by Mic … [Click Below for Full Description]

Handschrift - Manuscript - Charneux, Henricus de und Petrus Melis
University of Leuven, 1679. Leder-Einband [212 x 164 mm] // Engraved title page with manuscript title, 484 ll. Whilst all engravings within the present manuscript were printed by Michael Haye, all drawings were made after Blendeff engravings. This could be an evidence of the students' practice to share their engravings for copying, in order to save money. Under the plates, there is a very interesting engraving of a human heart with two folding parts, wholly printed in red. The other plates and drawings mostly depict optical and astronomical subjects. The Old University … [Click Below for Full Description]

London: Printed in the Year, 1679. 1st Ed. Square 8vo. 15pp. + [i] blank. T.p. device, dec. initial letter. Browning, rebound in modern half morocco with marbled boards, gilt lettered morocco title label to spine. Scarce first publication. ESTC R5964 ‘Anonymous. By John Oldham. In verse. Wing (CD-ROM, 1996), O243 Brooks, Harold F. Bibliography of John Oldham, 3. ' ODNB ‘...His first poem to achieve renown was 'Aude a liquid. Ode' (written in 1676 at Croydon), which circulated in manuscript and appeared in a pirated printed edition in 1679 under the misleading title A Satyr Against Vertue. This was imagined to be Rochester's speech on smashing the phallic glass sundials in the king's privy garden in 1675, and its satirical impersonation of Rochester's libertine stance drew an appreciative visit from the earl and his entourage. The 'Dithyrambique on Drinking: Suppos'd to be Spoken by Rochester at the Guinny-Club' and 'Sardanapalus', an erotic heroic extravaganza too obscene for publication, completed a trio of poems satirically mimicking libertine attitudes with such bravura that some readers failed to see their ironic purpose...'.
