Bellissima raccolta delle 25 tavv. numerate in lastra e inc. in acquaforte dell'artista francese Antoniette Stella (1641-1676), figlia dell'orafo Bouzonnet e di Madeleine Stella. Insieme alla sorella Claudine impara dallo zio materno Jacques Stella l'arte della incisione, e fu ispirata dal soggetto grazie al fratello Antoine il quale durante un viaggio in Italia fece tappa a Mantova dove ammirò il fregio in stucco di Palazzo Te e ne riportò un rilievo. L'opera celebra, attraverso le glorie di epoca romana, l'ingresso dell'imperatore Sigismondo in Mantova nel 1433. La prima tavola della serie, che funge da frontespizio, reca la dedicatoria a Colbert, primo Ministro del Re di Francia Luigi XIV, e vi sono riconoscibili le architetture del Palazzo. Mit gedruckter Widmung an den englischen Mediziner Johannes Freind (1675-1728).- Von Jodocus Lommius (Joost van Lom, etwa 1500 - 1564), studierte in Paris Medizin, wo er bei Fernel lernte und dessen Freundschaft er auch erwarb. Er habilitierte sich in Tournai, wo er 1557 zum Stadtarzt ernannt wurde. Er ging dann aber 1560 weiter nach Brüssel und wurde Leibarzt von Philipp II. Sein letztes Lebenszeichen stammt aus dem September 1562.Von ihm wurde gesagt, dass kein anderer Arzt seines Jahrhunderts die Kenntnis der Krankheiten mehr gefördert habe als er. L'autore, un medico olandese stimato dai suoi contemporanei, analizza i cibi e le bevande. L'antiporta raffigura un uomo indisposto di stomaco dopo aver mangiato.Ottimo esemplare con barbe a pieni margini, nota di possesso al frontespizio. Uno de los más influyentes personajes políticos de su época. Gran escritor y orador. En Roma deslumbró, entre los años 1669 a 1675, a la Curia con sus sermones y discursos. En 1674 escribió esta obra en la Academia que en Roma tenía en su palacio la reina Cristina de Suecia que propuso un problema con el argumento siguiente: Si el mundo es más digno de risa o de llanto y así quien acertaba mejor, Demócrito que reía siempre o Heraclito que siempre lloraba. Una fue defendida por Gerónimo Cataneo y la de Hipócrito por Antonio de Vieira. Notas: Raro manucrito escrito cerca de 1675 de la traducción de la obra en italiano de Vieira por Ignacio Paravizino y dedicado a Gaspar Mercader y Cervellón (1656 - 1686) tercer Conde de Cerbellón y cuarto de Buñol. Den Nederlandtsen Hovenier: [30],96,[2]pp (p. 96 misnumbered 69), with additional engraved title page, 15 full-page plates, 200 models of gardens (introduced by separate letterpress title page, p. 41), and woodcut illustrations in text. II. Nyland, Den Verstandigen Hovenier (Amsterdam: Marcus Doornick, 1672): 76,[4]pp, with large title-page vignette of country estate and gardens and 30 woodcut models of parterres. III. Nyland, De Medicyn-Winckel (Amsterdam: Marcus Doornick [n. d., but probably 1670]), to which is appended his Den Naerstigen Byen-Houder and Den verstandigen Kock (Anonymous), continuously signed and paginated, each part with separate title page engraved with large vignette (of pharmacy, beekeeping, and kitchen interior, respectively, the first two by G. V. Eeckhout): 88pp, with anatomical plates of a horse and cow and smaller woodcut illustrations of distilling appliances in the text. In London, it was published three times - in 1652, 1653, and 1659 - each time with a different title. Little is known about the author, Thomas Nichols. Printed label of the Henry Polissack Collection on the front pastedown. Japanese paper reinforcement in the gutter between endpapers and text block, binding simple. A good copy.
