[Click Below for Full Description]

Unknown & Various
London: Assignees of John Bill & Christopher Barker, 1670. USED: for Detailed Condition see further down item description below. This pocket-size Holy Bible must have looked stunning when it was made some 340 years ago in the days of King Charles II, small in size the 1670's full-leather binding was very ornately decorated, hand-tooled in gilt, even the page edges were gilded and then tooled - it must have been made for a wealthy important client. Another way that this is not an average C17th Bible, this pocket-size single volume edition of the King James version of The Holy Bible, containing the Old Testament and the New Testament, commences with the complete "Book of Common Prayer" and finishes with "The Whole Book of Psalms in Metre", over 1,100 pages, all printed in very small type on fine paper to greatly reduce the bulk (just 6-1/4 inches x 3-1/2 inches x 2 inches thick approximately). Still in its original 17th century decorative binding, and unrestored, as you can see I haven't even risked polishing this during the years I've owned it. Printed in London by the Assignees of John Bill and Christopher/Robert Barker (printers to the King's Most Excellent Majesty), this single volume was bound inclusive of: a 1670 printing of The Book of Common Prayer (approximately 156 pages), a 1677 Holy Bible both Old and New Testament (no Apocrypha included, O.T. 674 pages approx & N.T. 204 pages approx), and a 1673 printing of The Whole Book of Psalms in Metre (93 pages), ending with a 3-page section of Private Prayers. (Sola Piloa family).
1670. Diego Jeronimo Gomez, legal guardian of 14-year-old Antonio Sola Piloa of Burgos, petitions to have Antonio's status as an infanzon -- i.e., a minor noble with a proven lineage free of bastardy, Jewish blood, etc., who enjoys certain privileges and exemptions -- recognized by the crown. => A large portion of the petition consists of a history of the Sola Piloa family and of its accomplishments for the crown. The manuscript is accomplished => on vellum in a good calligraphic script in sepia ink, single-column format, 27 lines per page. Painting and embellishments: Opposite the first page of the manuscript, beneath a bejeweled crown, is a large colored and illuminated representation (on paper) of the Sola family coat of arms: a castle with lions rampant left and right and charges of a crescent moon and a grenade, above a ribbon blazoned, "Sola Infanzon de Aragon." The colors used are silver, red, gold, and blue. The page opposite the coat of arms leaf, opening the text, is richly illuminated and decorated in more than half of its area with red flowers on stems with green leaves, and with two birds; the whole is contained within a gilt-ruled frame. Toward the end of the petition proper there are two lines of text written all in majuscules accomplished in gold, with red highlighting; and the first three lines of the granting of the petition that follows are also indited in majuscules in gold with red highlighting, and with green foliage and a bird. The binding: Contemporary reddish-brown morocco over pasteboards, with evidence of silk ties now missing; gilt dou … [Click Below for Full Description]

London: 1670. For sale is an exceptionally rare volume indeed, being THE ADVICE OF Charles the Fifth, Emperor of GERMANY, AND KING OF SPAIN, To his Son Philip the Second; Upon his Resignation of the Crown of SPAIN to his said Son. LONDON, Printed for H. Mortlock, at the Sign of the White Hart in Westminster-Hall. 1670. 163p.p, collated as complete. Small 4to. Bound in full contemporary sheep, with tooling in blind to the boards. Original plain endpapers. Externally it remains in good order for it's age; extraneous rubbing and bumping, but the hinges firm and intact. Internally, save the odd spot and occasional toning, this is a delightfully clean volume throughout. Research on the ESTC shows only a handful of copies of this text, held in some of the world's most prestigious libraries; The Bodleain and The British Library, to name but two. Overall, this is a discovery most rare and we are unable to locate another example anywhere on the open market, or indeed a record of one ever selling. Hence, it is an opportunity not to be missed, and it will grace any collection. [Attributes: First Edition]

London, 1670. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is a very old book. This book was published in 1670. Most likely this is a First Edition but the actual title page is missing, but it has been supplied in manuscript. The book was rebound in the 1830's, because on the cover in Roman numerals it reads "1832". The binding is black leather with gold tooling. The gold tooling on the front and back covers are very elaborate. On the spine it has the title, below that a symbol or shield of some sort and below that is a date of the book in gold "1670". The binding is completely in tact, but has some scuffing and rubbing. For its age it is in great condition. Both boards are together and there are no tears to the pages. Two or three pages in the beginning are completely detached. The printing of the pages, some are not straight, and some pages, the printing goes almost to the bottom of the page. There are 284 pages. The fore-edge is most likely from the 1830's. The edge is of a tavern scene with two men and a dog.!!! BECAUSE I AM REDUCING ALL MY FORE EDGE PAINTING BOOKS BY 40% THERE WILL BE A SMALL S & H CHARGE OF $10.00 PER BOOK. [Attributes: First Edition]

[Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
