Lievin CRUYL (Ghendt 1640 - 1720)
Acquaforte, 1666, firmata e datata in lastra in basso a sinistra. Dimensioni 483x400. Etching, 1666, signed and dated on lower left plate. Example in the very rare first state of two, before the engraving adjustments. Pieter GOOS (1616 - 1675)
1666. Splendida nonché rara carta dell'Europa e dell'est Atlantico. Incisione in rame, fine coloritura coeva, piccole macchie, in generale in ottime condizioni. Very scarce and extremely handsome sea chart of Europe and the eastern Atlantic. It includes the Africa coast to Cape Verde and nearly all of Greenland. The unusual orientation has north to the right of the chart. It is richly embellished with rhumb lines, compass roses, coats of arms, sailing ships, distance scale, and a fine title cartouche. Pieter Goos (ca. 1616-1675) was one of the most important cartographer, engraver, publisher and print seller of Amsterdam. His widow continued business at her husband's death. She re-issued 'Nieuwe Groote Zee-Spiegel" in 1676. Copperplate, fine original colour, some foxing, generally in very good condition.

Giovanni Giacomo De ROSSI (Roma 1627 - 1691)
[Click Below for Full Description]

Giovanni Giacomo De ROSSI (Roma 1627 - 1691)
[Click Below for Full Description]

[VIEW - MAKASSAR]. HOOGHE, Romeyn de.
A magnificent engraving, in its second state, depicting the victory of the Dutch East India Company over the Kingdom of Makassar. It shows the victories of Cornelis Speelman and his ally, Radjah Palacca, King of the Bougainese, in the years 1666 to 1669, with their portraits together at the head, flanked by two battle scenes: the left showing the victory over the capital Samboupo and the right showing the capture of the fortified settlements Glisson, Batta, etc. The view was engraved by Romeyn de Hooghe, one of the greatest artists to come out of the late Dutch Golden Age. In its present second state, it includes numbers referring to the numbers in the letterpress key. The plate itself depicts various events from the war, including the siege of Bouton, the island called Makassar's churchyard, the surrender of the King of Makassar, houses, farms, etc.Edges of the plate have been strengthened with some tiny repairs to the corners and outer edges of the fold, mostly covered by the passepartout. A very good copy.Landwehr, R. de Hooghe, p. 59; Landwehr & V.d. Krogt, VOC 236; cf. Muller, Historieprenten 2294..

The work was translated from the original Dutch published at Amsterdam in 1669. The sultan was defeated and submitted to VOC control with the treaty of Bungaya (18 November 1668).Without the engraved map included in some copies. BARCHUSEN, Johann Conrad.
Completely revised edition of a collection of 26 texts on the history of medical and chemical theories by an expert on medicine and chemistry, Johann Conrad Barchusen (1666-1723). Between the examined authors are Paracelsus, Crollius, Van Helmont, Fludd, Campanella, etc. Pp. 333-63 are devoted to Chinese medicine, or acapuncture. Barchusen studied pharmacy at several universities, including the universities of Berlin, Mainz and Vienna. He settled in Utrecht in 1694, and after being awarded an honorary M.D. by the city in 1698, he was appointed extraordinary professor of chemistry in 1703.Barchusen's work shows his development from a practicing pharmacist to a professor of the new academic discipline of chemistry. Therefore, in 1723, the present revised edition was published as a respond to these criticisms. With the eges of the binding slightly rubbed and the gilting on spine partly gone. Some browning and foxing throughout and a few wormholes in the margins of the last leaves; a good copy.Ferguso … [Click Below for Full Description]
