Johannes BLAEU (Alkmaar 1571 - Amsterdam 1663)
Incisione in rame, bellissima coloritura coeva, leggere macchie di umidità nella parte superiore, per il resto in buone condizioni." img{max-width:100%} Extremely RARE 1665 Gazette 17th Century OXFORD London England OLD UK Newspaper (Note: additional images are located below the description) Shown is an original & historic old newspaper, offered to enhance your collectible interest: THE OXFORD GAZETTE, England, Dec. 4, 1665 * Earliest & Rarest of newspapers to be had * The black plague This is an extremely famous--and rare--title, being the predecessor of the famous "London Gazette", the oldest continually published English language newspaper in the world. Plus this is the #6 issue. Because of the Plague at this time, the Royal Court had removed itself from London to Oxford when this newspaper began, so issues #1 thru #23 were published simultaneously in Oxford & London and when the contagion had subsided & the Court returned to London this newspaper went with it and renamed itself "The London Gazette" with issue #24, and the rest is history. The content is entirely taken up wit reports from various parts of Europe, most with a military theme. The front page has a bit noting: "...The Plague, which doth usually take its course with the summer season, hath this year hitherto been very favourable to Constantinople; but fire, which is another evil incident to this city, hath burnt a considerable part of the Grand Seignors Seraglio..." Also on the ftpg., from Paris: "Since the infection at Calais, all intercourse from hence with that place is interdicted, and the English letters ordered to come to Bologne." 1665. "The most successful architectural textbook ever written." A rare printing of Vignola's 'Five Orders of Architecture' Giacomo da Vignola was perhaps the most important 16th-century architects. This edition was one of many to be based on Pierre Le Muet's reduction of 1632. The majority of the illustrations are straight copies of those in Le Muet's edition, and parts of the text are also copied directly from the same source, although a few captions have been revised by Bernard Menessier , and the comparison of the orders which appears in some of the Italian folio editions has been added. According to Fornari, this entire work was engraved on copper. [Attributes: First Edition]

KIRCHER ATHANASIUS
Amsterdam, 1665. Incisione in rame, mm 340x554. Copper engraving, mm 340x554. From "Mundus Subterraneus" by Kircher. He was a celebrated Jesuit scholar and one of the first compilers of semi-scientific knowledge about the physical features of the earth. As with most of his maps, this chart shows the ocean currents, chasms and volcanoes as then recorded. Kircher suggested the earth had a central connected to the crust at many points and also contained big reservoirs of water; when water and fire interacted, volcanoes, storms and earthquakes were the result. TOOLEY: Dictionary p.357A very good example with original binding folds, side margins somewhat short cartografia.

FIELD, John
I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. An incredibly rare 17th-century John Field Greek version of the Psalms of David and Book of Common Prayer The Cambridge Holy Bible, printed completely in Greek, was "sometimes known as the 'Preaching Bible'." (Herbert 697). John Field printed Greek Bibles are extremely rare and popular amongst Greek scholars and still used by 21st-century preachers. This John Field Bible is 'Variation A' of his Greek Bible. According to D&M, "the figure in the oval device Alma Mater Contabrigia on the titlepage is holding the sun in the right hand and the cup in the left, while the motto Hinc lucem... begins at the bottom on the left side. Field's own original edition!" (D&M 4701) * Darlow and Moule note that "Field's edition was counterfeited page for page, by John Hayes, a Cambridge printer, who executed an edition in 1684, to which he put Field's name, and date of 1665." This edition of the Book of Psalms is NOT the Hayes counterfeit. [Attributes: First Edition]
